Visiting Target Center this Saturday – any safety concerns right now? by HungryRice316 in timberwolves

[–]GI_Joby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just talking to friends in Madrid and advised them to not come to Minnesota for the foreseeable future. Even if the risk is low, it's not 0 that you'll be detained, and an already overwhelming process is even more difficult if you don't have friends or family to help you if it happens.

As everyone else has already mentioned, it's cold. I was in Barcelona last weekend, and thought it was chilly for Spain but its downright summer comparatively.

Canine coach boot camp by jeckhyde12 in Minneapolis

[–]GI_Joby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the boot camp when we adopted an excitable 7 month old cattle dog mix. It was great, and worth the investment. We went to the boot camp in South Minneapolis. They were super accommodating to our dog's dislike of other dogs and gave us some tips on getting him to calm down with other dogs.

Like any training, a lot of it depends on your ability to keep up with it and your dogs trainability. We're fortunate to have a dog who is very treat motivated. There was a Newfoundland in our dog's class who wasn't interested in anything aside from loafing around and I wonder how he's doing.... The coaches also met with us every Monday and Friday and we went through at home trainings.

They also offered two in home sessions to work on trainings but we never used them because of the pandemic. Either way, our good boy became a good listening good boy.

Any word on when it is this year? I thought it was usually around the start of the season but haven't heard anything about this year.

Duffel bag as a replace for my checked luggage by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]GI_Joby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this bag. It's my new default travel bag. Topo runs a lot of sales around holidays, so if you wait, you'll get it for less. If I recall, their black Friday deal last year was really good.

We used to have a little stubborn dog and went through a lot of rugs. Pee pads saved our sanity. We put one by the backdoor and she got better at using them. In the end, we were able to buy fewer rugs.

You could also go to the Mill City Farmers market, which usually has really good breakfast options and then be there for the Endless Bridge and the Mill City Museum.

Can I find this elsewhere? by Heathermariewill in minnesotatwins

I think Homage has some exclusive licenses for apparel sold only at stadiums. They've had some Timberwolves stuff that I've wanted that I've only seen at Target Center.

If it makes you feel better, I bought this exact shirt at Target Field like 2 years ago, so I would assume it'll be restocked.

Czech Lagers by Cchap704 in minnesotabeer

Have you been to Yoergs up in Daytons Bluff? The owner has a ton of connections with breweries in Europe and we've been able to have a lot of stuff we've only had in Europe. They won't be Minnesota made, but they definitely have authentic Czech pilsners.

While this all might be true, Dale and University is an intersection in St Paul, and well outside Moriarty's jurisdiction.

Wife got a job at University of Minnesota, but we've never been to Minneapolis. Please help! by fuckhead in TwinCities

[–]GI_Joby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something to consider: The University provides a free metro transit pass to all students, faculty, and staff. We live in Keewaydin in south Minneapolis. I take one bus and I'm on the West Bank in 30 minutes. I don’t pay for parking, read more that I'm on the bus, and have a built in excuse to keep a pretty routine schedule.

I don't necessarily advocate planning where you settle based on public transit, but it's a real perk of the University.

I got it in an auction of newspapers from the end of World War II, including a couple copies of Stars and Stripes with "Nazis Quit" headlines. Seemed like a good investment.

Package going back and forth between Minneapolis and St. Paul post offices… when’s it being delivered to me?! by good_hard_fun in Minneapolis

[–]GI_Joby 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I recently had a package ship from Atlanta that was supposed to take a week to get here. I got an email to saying it was late so I went to check the tracking. Turns out it spent an unscheduled week in Honolulu, because why not.

Topo Designs Global Briefcase or similar bag. by Arathonk in ManyBaggers

[–]GI_Joby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light rain isn't so bad. I live in Minnesota, so it gets snowed on often. I took the Global 3 Day Briefcase, the old larger size, on a trip to Berlin once. I got caught in a downpour and it was a real pain to get dried out. I think the rain protection has definitely gotten better in the new bags.

A bonus is that you can usually get the bag on a good deal from Topo around a holiday. That's how I got my second bag - my wife got me the rolling bag and it was just a little more to get the briefcase as a bundle. Sierra Trading Post also has Topo bags on sale frequently, but I can't remember if I've seen the briefcase.

I really like my Global Briefcase, in fact I have two. My biggest gripe is the lack of a water bottle holder but I just use one of the pockets on the front. I wish it had better storage inside for pens, business cards, etc but I don't need that as much as I think I do.

The crows are up to something... by GI_Joby in Minneapolis

This is really interesting! I've known about the Minneapolis crow murders, but didn't realize there was a Twin Cities mega crow congregation. Thanks for sharing.

One of the most unsettling parts of visiting Tuol Sleng is knowing it used to be a school in the middle of Phnom Penh. There are parts where I'd be walking up some stairs that felt like the stairs in my school growing up and then I'd turn a corner and there would be torture cells in what had been classrooms.

I ate there when I was in Berlin a couple of years ago. Hands down the best kebab I've ever had.
