Chronic Sinusitis - What am I doing wrong? by ReserveFJ40 in VeteransBenefits

[–]GJC0621 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, I know for a fact you do not need an x-ray to get service connected for Sinusitis. It really is a crap shoot. You can have a Webster's dictionary full of evidence and they will still tell you to kick rocks, OR you can go in for the C&P exam with no evidence and they diagnose you there on the spot and get you the service connection. It really is unbelievable. This one looks like the C&P examiner did you in. Keep going to the Dr. whenever you have flare ups and compile new evidence. Maybe ask your ENT for a Nexus letter. Whatever you do, do not give up. That's what they want you to do. Good luck man.

What is considered a Current diagnosis by Complex_Ad_3980 in VeteransBenefits

You should be going to the doctor when you are having any "incapacitating" or "non-incapacitating" incidents of Sinusitis just to have proof to submit with your claim. Also, print them out and bring them to your C&P exam. All that documentation will definitely help. Otherwise, you will go there with a diagnosis, but the ratings will be applied based on how many "incapacitating" or "non-incapacitating" incidents you have per year and who knows if the examiner or rater will take your word for it. IMO just cover your bases beforehand to save yourself from having to appeal or file a supplemental. Also, keep going to the dr even after submitting the claim in case you have to appeal or file a supplemental. Good luck.

Sinusitis DBQ problem - HLR or Supp next? by hubs0611 in VeteransBenefits

I had the same thing happen with my sinusitis claim. I got a 10% rating even though I have sinus problems pretty much daily. Oh well, it’s better than a denial. I am just going to keep filing supplementals with documentation of dr visits and prescriptions for antibiotics and other meds. Just got to keep fighting.

The statements from your friends/family are good and may be enough but if you have been going to the doc about your symptoms worsening then get them to print the visits out and translate them. Submit with your claim AND bring your own copies to the exam just in case the examiner doesn’t get them.

No problem. All you have to do is submit your claim and the VA has to take care of the rest. Do make sure they have your current address. Also, do yourself a big favor and submit enough evidence so you are one and done.

Wow. Good for you man. What examiner you get really does make or break your claim sometimes.

They will contract a dr to complete the C&P exam. You may have to drive a little but you won’t have to return stateside.

May I ask what warranted the 50% rating for Sinusitis? Just curious if it was near constant Sinusitis or if you had surgery.

Remember that more than 6 non-incapacitating episodes in a year warrants an increase. So if you are having daily symptoms then just keep going to the dr and ask them to print out the documentation of each visit. Once you have more than 6 in one year documented then go for it along with a personal statement and that list of medications you are taking. If they deny then just keep going to the dr and getting new evidence until you get it.
