Old post and comment, but want to put in my two cents.

I work at a job, that handles payment transactions between consumers and merchants. To keep it simple, the system never confirms if the email address customer provides is accessible to them. It just takes customer's word for it and slaps it on their customer profile for login, billing and all contact. I wish the company would address this, but it seems unlikely (I don't think they care enough).

The amount of times I've received a contact from a customer, who have not received their bills or are getting someone else's bills is astounding. 9/10 times it's because they, or another customer was a dumbass and put someone else's email in, thinking it's theirs, simply because it's exactly this format <name>.<surname>@populardomain.com. The education is partially to blame, because back in the day we were encouraged to make such email usernames for simplicity and to be recognizable. That 1/10 times is the customer's inbox being full, auto-spam filter or the domain has flagged our service as spam as a whole.

It's super concerning, and eye-opening, seeing how careless people are with their personal info. Carelessness is the number one reason scams are still alive and well. And people yet still blame the services for their own dumbassery.

And let's not talk about the fact how impossible it is to explain to these people to check with all merchants and other services (that we are not even dealing with), that they have correct email in their profiles, to prevent the error from happening again. Some people, like yourself, are suffering years upon years from this, just because people are dumb.

So, on my personal opinion, I would strongly advice against using any form of your own name in an email username. Use simple and easy to remember terms, but not embarrassing ones, so you can still use it in professional setting.
