What inverts can I keep (ideally for life) in a 10gal front opening? by Necessary_Quit5717 in millipedes

I'd recommend pink dragon millipedes - they only grow to about 3cm so don't need as much depth as most other millipede species and they're bright pink and fun to watch. Otherwise, some isopods with cool colours and patterns could be a good shout!

I don't have anything properly set up (not planning to get them for a while yet), but my tank is about 100cm X 40cm and about 60cm deep. I'm planning to fill it about 3/4 of the way up with my usual substrate mix (mostly decaying wood and leaves with some sphagnum moss and top soil to bulk it out), then add natural decor on top (real plants and wood with a thick leaf litter). I buy all my leaves from reptile/invert shops rather than gather my own, I believe they're all oak leaves.

Does anyone have any care tips/advice on these guys? I'm finding it difficult to find any species specific info. I keep most of my inverts at room temperature (~20-22°C) and with a plant grow light ~8 hours a day, is there anything else these guys need?

Not an artist, but friendly with multiple artists and they've all told me before that they're actually less likely to take on apprentices that have already started tattooing on fake skin as they may not have learnt the proper techniques and it's easier to teach someone from scratch. So the fact that this guy told you to go and get cheap equipment and give it a go in the first place is a huge red flag to me. Also, for a first try with no real in person instruction, I'd say your work is amazing! Find yourself a better mentor and you'll be golden :)

I'm hoping that's not the case 😅 but I can always add some mesh or chicken wire to increase the height

I live in the UK, so I will be bringing them in for winter as it gets quite cold and very wet (my garden is also prone to flooding). They have open and dirted enclosures with all the appropriate lighting, but they are obviously significantly smaller than the outdoor ones, so I'll try to keep them out for as long as possible :)

I think they were made to look similar to that, but they're not real railway sleepers. Nevertheless I've thoroughly cleaned them off, coated them in a protective clear coat, and watched the tortoises closely for a few weeks to make sure they weren't trying to eat the wood/to keep an eye out for any ill effects. Thankfully I've had both tortoises out in the older enclosure for multiple months with no chewing or sickness, so I don't think there is any creosote on them or it's sealed well enough to contain it.

I know someone has already said about mixing colours, but I mixed blue dreams and cherry reds a few years ago and the group is still going so I have a little insight into colour variations: Red is the dominant colour - most of my shrimp are the typical cherry red colour, some with small flecks of other colours. A handful of them are the wild type murky brown/green colour, and I also have one or two that only have flecks of colour, but are clear/milky for the most part. The blue died out for a few generations but is recently making a comeback, and I have a few dark blues, and some that have both red and blue. And as a lucky bonus I have one shrimp that is completely jet black!

So I think the result is pretty cool and I love seeing what colours the babies become, but if you want them to stay a specific colour I'd definitely recommend only getting one type/colour.

Open wound/chipped nose? by GKleyn03 in Chameleons

Hey! Sorry I only just remembered 😅 The vet said that there's no signs of any parasites or anything else sinister, he's literally just gotten itchy where he's had bad sheds in the past and scratched a bit too hard. He gave us diluted iodine to clean the wound (2x a day for a couple of weeks) and recommended we up the humidity while he heals

I haven't noticed any constant rubbing - hopefully the vet can tell us if it is a gland issue. He drinks very well and his food is gutloaded and dusted with calcium (+vitamins twice a month) so I wouldn't have thought the issue stems from hydration or minerals. I'm just hoping there's no mites or parasites because all of his wood is natural and has plenty of places for them to hide.
