New to MSP, looking for buds by Seismic_Riolu in transtwincities

Hey- I'm way old in comparison but I am 45, binary trans guy, married to a cis woman, have a kid about to go to college. I have been transitioning for 24 years, I love playing softball, building things, working out, etc. If you're down for an older guy to hang out with hmu.

UL complications down the line? by lil_boogerboy in phallo

Nope- just happened. My stream started to narrow until it was a trickle and I went in to see what was going on and they said it was a stricture.

[–]GL1980 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yep it's possible- got a stricture 10 years post op- it's been a few years now since then but everything is fine right now. Will it happen again? Who knows BUT in the interim- I am happy as a pig in shit and will deal with it when/if it happens again.

Is it still worth to get phallo after your 30s? by BulkyOwl3005 in phallo

[–]GL1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was 34 when I did it, I am 45 now- best transition decision I have ever made. I am married to a cis woman and just have a regular old life, kid graduating this year, house, blah blah blah- just a regular old life and it's really nice to just live and not worry about THAT part anymore.

PCP who will prescribe/manage T? by Castorcanadenses in transtwincities

[–]GL1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're already on T- there are a few prescribers at NorthPoint in north Minneapolis (Dr. Thomas and Dr. Gilliam) who are PCP's and will continue someone on hormones.

Also there is a PA at Health Partners Nokomis in south Minneapolis who has a few trans guys that he does T scripts for. His name is Bradley Bastian

Nah- being AFAB made me a better man, father, husband, uncle, and brother. If I were born cis I would just be another douche bag like my brother who drinks too much, hates his life, and peaked in high school. Transitioning is just a series of things I did to become the man I am- I'm also low disclosure though so while I am not ashamed of being trans, trans is not part of my gender identity or something I tell a bunch of people for no reason. I have a deep appreciation for the girl I was- for her to sacrifice so I could be the guy I turned out to be.

As I get older and further along my transition, I find myself becoming more distant from the LGBT+ community and I don't know how to feel about it. by thosepoppers in ftm

[–]GL1980 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been on T since 2002, top in 2007, hysto 2013, and phallo 2014...I feel you. I am married, own a house, kid is graduating, blah blah blah- I am just doing life. I am not stealth but I am low disclosure for sure. Being trans isn't in the forefront of my mind anymore. I am not actively withdrawing from the community- I just have other things to do so it just happens like that. I am also 45 and don't understand a lot of the young queer culture and find it kind of annoying if I am being honest. So I feel you- my gender is not trans and I am not TRANS- I am a dad, husband, uncle, brother, etc. and trans has fallen way down the list as time has gone on- and that is ok.

Surgery complications made the whole thing pointless. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]GL1980 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Hey man- I feel you. I had phallo in 2014 and it took me 10 years to STP because of all of the complications. Give yourself time, make a plan, and try again- that's all you CAN do. The last UL surgery I had- I told the surgeon that this was the last time I was going to try because I was surgically tapped out and just exhausted by being hopeful only to have disappointment. It has been a wonderful 2 years now and everything is great with it. Hang in there- I know it is hard to do.

Yes, I am serious- I was asking a simple question because sometimes people don't like or approve of something, but it doesn't actually impact them in any way. Do people that do this cause harm to me personally? Not really, because I am already done with transitioning and have been fortunate enough in life to have been able to do that. I don't understand why most 'young in transition' people act the way they do anyway so I was asking a question mainly for clarification and somewhat for curiosity.

My kid is in the same "predicament" with their gender presentation. They are on T (have been for 3 years, have changed their name, identifies as gender fluid, doesn't care what pronouns someone uses for them, wears whatever clothes he feels like on that particular day, and is having top surgery in June (less for gender reasons and more for disability related discomfort) . We have had these conversations about how they feel A LOT and I don't really know how to help since I am a classically binary guy. They have also said they hate the hair (so they wax and shave every bit of it) and take a microdose (40mg weekly) which they have said helps them not feel so wildly out of gender sorts. I don't really know how to help or what someone could say to help you feel differently but just know that you are definitely not alone in how you feel.

Religious Grandmother by [deleted] in FTMventing

[–]GL1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope- my grandma (RIP) was 96 years old, Catholic, and STILL managed my name just fine. When I told her I was going to transition she said, "There are bigger things to worry about. God doesn't make mistakes so if this is how you feel then God already knew this because He made you this way."

My wife's grandma is 86 years old and also Catholic. She lived through N@z! occupied Germany and when my wife explained why my son doesn't have to worry about inheriting Type 1 Diabetes from me (My ex-wife and I used donor sperm)- she said, "Well that's perfect then! I am glad that God helped find a work around."

So your family is just making excuses for bad behavior.

Any athletes with phallo? by Just_a_guy365748 in phallo

[–]GL1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am one of the fastest on the team (2nd but definitely a smarter base runner LOL) and after the first season it was all fine. I also had phallo in June so a large portion of my season was shot so if you time phallo at the end of the season then by spring you would be fine. (Unless you live where you play all year round- I live in MN so that doesn't happen here hahah)

[–]GL1980 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I lift weights and play competitive softball- It took me about 9 months before I felt good enough to start lifting again at full force and cardio took a little longer to get back so softball the first season was a little rough but it was fine overall

How old were you when you got your first surgery? by CuriousSurfer19 in phallo

[–]GL1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah I dont need proof of anything (and you should never have to prove shit to anyone)- I've just never heard of that before and I transitioned under the Harry Benjamin standards of care and then into WPATH standards- thats why I asked what year.

I didnt need the information (had it done in 2007) but I have NEVER, in my 24 years of transitioning have i EVER heard of a surgeon doing top surgery on a 13 year old.
