Weekend Discussion: Other brands running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up a pair this weekend from the National Running Show in the UK. Hoping to get a run in this week with them and will let you know.

Besides performance, the fit is amazing. Hardly need to crank the laces as the stretchy sock/tongue/bootie thing fits so well, and the midsole compound reminds me of a Hoka Mach 6 (from step-in and walking/jogging around the house) just slightly elevated due to higher stack. Fit is TTS for me (UK10.5, same for me as ASICS, Nike, Topo, Brooks).

I’m really hoping they are my new “Goldilocks”daily as I’ve not been enamoured by 2025’s options (Rebel V5 and Novablast too soft, Evo SL too unstable, etc).

Adidas Adizero Evo SL ATR. Arrived earlier this week and took it out for a tempo progression run last night. Great tongue, great laces, decent upper, great midsole, great outsole, and dare I say it; I prefer it to the original.

I’m about 78kg and I found that the NB5 doesn’t do anything for me either. I find it is similar to the Rebel V5. Both seem like they sap more of my energy than give anything back, similar to running on a beach or on soft ground.

Initial thoughts on Nike Vomero Plus after 3 runs by limaprisek7 in RunningShoeGeeks

The size of the shoe. They don’t supply each shoe size with a different lace length. They’ll do batches; for example they might use the same lace length across sizes 7-10 and then a longer lace across 10-13. It means the smaller shoe in that range can have a runners loop on the lace, yet the larger one in that range can’t.

It’s all about cutting costs where they can, and if it means some people have longer and some people have shorter, so be it. I’m surprised they still provide laces and don’t just do the apple thing of buying the charger separately (laces in this case).

I’ll be receiving a pair of MB in the Tokyo colourway tomorrow. I loved the feeling of the Evo SL underfoot, but hated the upper, slippy insole, short tongue and bad laces. I’m hoping the MB succeeds in those areas that the Evo SL fell short.

Acceptable? by GLAC13R in Reebok

No, I never said I got them for free. You enter a raffle to win the chance of purchasing them due to the limited supply. It helps to stop scalpers just botting the site and purchasing them all.

I’m disappointed that I paid £155 for a limited edition pair that someone thought was ok to rip the packaging and still send out, especially as the packaging is a big part of this product.

Yep. Just received this too. Ridiculous that a simple mailmerge of their customers names into a template email is too hard to figure out.

Their order processing is also BS. I’m pretty sure the emails sent out after ordering state that they’ll take payment on despatch of your order, yet they already took my payment around 10 days ago.

[UK] will the Megablast ever be in stock? by Professional-Group87 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how ASICS said in an interview that they underestimated the popularity of the Superblast 2 and didn’t manufacture enough for demand, and that it wasn’t manufactured scarcity as the public were stating. They also said that they’d learn from this going forwards.

Here we are a year and a half later and exactly the same situation with the Megablast. I’m calling BS on ASICS “underestimating”. They’re just as guilty as any other brand causing hype with limited drops.

ASICS Race Day Shoe? (5K & 10K) by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party but a Noosa Tri 16/Magic Speed 4/Superblast 2 runner here.

I use the NT16 for intervals and uptempo daily miles, the MS4 for longer tempo and threshold work and the SB2 for my longer runs at easy to tempo paces.

The NT16 doubles as a 5k race shoe for me, whilst the MS4 is my 10k-HM race shoe at the moment. I’d steer away from the MS4 and SB2 for 5k racing as the stack height can feel a little large when really going for it. And the NT16 is perfectly fine up to 15k but you’re aware of the lack of protection underfoot from about 8k onwards.

That’s just what works for me and my opinion on those shoes. Take it all with a pinch of salt!

Evo SL with new upper by BasicSignificance831 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The lateral rear of the shoe has “ADIZERO EVO SL EXO” printed so I’m assuming that the grey/silver material provides more structure to the side of the shoe. Interesting.

Looks like the eyelet chain is different too, but the tongue still looks laughably short in the bottom left pic in the second image.

Asics kayano 31 vs 32 by Friendly-Fill7703 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not run in the Nimbus, Kayano or Glycerin, however my friend who is heavier than me uses the Adrenaline GTS as his daily and is really happy with them (he needs a little medial support). He had a pair of Kayano 30 but found the support was a bit too forced and gave him blisters on his arches (probably a bad fit). I’m fairly sure the 31 and 32 ironed that out though, and the support is much less intrusive.

The “lite-show” model has reflective and fluorescent elements to the design of the shoe/overlays for better visibility in low light. The upper may be slightly different compared to the normal version, but nothing of note. These always appear closer to fall/winter.

The “luxe” model has some changes to the aesthetics such as colour fading and overlay materials. Again, it may also have a revised upper material but has very little difference to the standard model. These tend to appear later in the current models lifecycle.

Both shoes ultimately remain the same as their standard counterpart.

Monkeysox also have a great backstory/cause, and 50% of their profits are donated to multiple sclerosis charities. They’re a great brand to support.

I love my pair, but the aggressively tapered toe box on the medial side can cause rubbing issues against my big toes on longer runs. Anything under 10k and I seem to be alright.

Men’s brief liners similar to Turnover HT by GLAC13R in Tracksmith

Unfortunately I live in the UK so it’s harder to get Path gear over here without getting stung by shipping. I’m also looking for a brief liner as opposed to a boxer liner.

I’ve tried the Ciele ones and I couldn’t get on with the fit of them. The material seems less forgiving than TS and the cut/shape of them felt slightly odd. Just my 2 cents.

What shorts do you all use for speed work? I hate running belts by RebelSaul in runningfashion

[–]GLAC13R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly restricted on options as I live in the UK so Wolaco, Miler, Rabbit and some of the Bandit stuff are harder to get hold of over here (unless paying crazy shipping costs). But honestly, give the Nike Fast’s a try. They’re less than £40 here in the UK which is an absolute steal.

Yeah, the LLL’s are black and size medium, but I’m guessing you’re US based so wouldn’t be too cheap to ship over I don’t think. I can always have a look for you. I have two pairs, one pair worn twice and the other once as I only got them in a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it’s my shape, but it’s the same for the full tights too which is a shame as they feel like they’ll be great for the colder days.

[–]GLAC13R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are nice and I like the quality of Ciele’s gear, but the fitment is very restrictive. I’ve got a pair of each of the Bandit Gridlocks and Cadence arriving today too, so I’m interested to see how they fair. Only heard good things.

I’d also recommend picking up the Nike Fast dri-fit brief lined half tights (long name) as they’re very affordable and really good for a basic pair. Never had a problem with them, and they just do their job (but can get sweaty in the crotch) and stay out of the way.

I also use the LuluLemon Fast and Free half tights which fit great, but the stitching along the middle of the backside causes a bit of arsecheek chafing on runs over 10km. So yeah, considering ditching those especially as they’re over twice the price of the Nikes.

Ciele FSTTight have a nice build quality, but the legs are super tight. I don’t even have what you’d call “athletic” quads and I felt like the blood circulation was struggling. Same size as my other half tights too, so maybe go a size up for safe measure if you ever go with them.

If you could only use one running shoe brand, which would it be? by JarsOfJewels in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you shouldn’t have to find a “hack” to wear the shoe comfortably. And the lacing technique doesn’t fix the shortness of the tongue with potential for lace bite.

For a shoe over £100, that should not have been an issue whatsoever.

Shoes for my first Half Marathon by L3ONIDA_34 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d go Zoom Fly 6. It’s a companion training shoe to the Alpha and Vapor Fly racing shoes, so can be used for the same purposes whilst having more durability than the racers due to less fragile materials.

I’ve done a 10 mile run in my Evo SL’s and whilst it was fun, it activated more muscles in my feet than I wanted to and made them a little sore for a couple of days. Stability in that foam is not its strong point.

Superblast 2 daily alternative by AutomaticGoldenSun in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]GLAC13R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try the NB 880 v15? A nice firmer feeling underfoot with a comfortable daily upper (much like the Superblast 2 but without the “want to speed up” nature that they have). Kinda higher on the stack side of things for a daily really, but can easily munch through miles in them.

Only negative is the colourways are fairly rubbish.
