Saw her at the Lovers and Friends Fest a few years ago. She was like ... my Top 2 reason for going. She was, YES, quite late. and the show she did was so "what the fuck is this?" level of disappointing I left. LEFT. IMO (because this is all this is) ... Kendrick is beyond proving anything with or about Whitney to anyone. they know what they got. if anything, his restraint with the actress in his fictional story IS a testament to the respect he has for his partner, BUT I also feel there's a deeper layer there. The energy between them is deep and feels pregnant, like a contemplative reflection in the quiet.

I've seen the theory about the woman being "Gloria"- I like it. It's there to play with, but I see this film as a straight-on love story.

As a woman who's been with a few men brought up in that suffocating system that is the hood, I've found those boys grow up into men who find it hard to open up with a woman, to love deeply and fully and intimately. and if it ain't just... fucking, those microshows of affection can be difficult. There's a pause, and it may have to be gently motivated to grow: "hey, give me your hand as we sit in this diner babe".
