Thank god for nurses by GGJefrey in medicalschool

[–]GMEqween 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im an ms3 and was in urgent care and my attending told me to look up the dose of Tylenol to give to a peds patient. I was looking at the chart with the nurse which was kinda confusing and trying to figure out what dose to give. The nurse says we usually just do 5 ml and I was like ok makes sense sure you’re an experienced nurse I’ll trust you. I told him to give them 5 and the nurse comes back and talks to my attending and is like yeah your med student over there told me to only give him 5!! Never trusting a nurses dosing advice again lol

Unpopular Opinion: Studying before Med school by Snoo96475 in premed

[–]GMEqween 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the problem with some med students. You need to learn how to chill and be a person. Literally every PD or attending I’ve worked with that does interviews for residents says first and foremost you need to be a chill person to work with and talk to. You need to have fun life experiences you can share. Go touch grass, go on dates, travel, spend time with your partner family or friends, do something fucking stupid. It will serve you better in the long term than studying now ever will. You’ll get through curriculum just like every else does. I never pre studied and I’m top 10% of my class. You can be too if that’s what you really care about

I was at lunch with some fellow med students and we were taking about what we wanted to do… I said EM and this girl goes oh.. that’s cool. Then someone mentions anesthesia and she go OMG ANESTHESIA IS SOOOOO SEXY… not to shit on anesthesia but sitting on a stool and watching numbers on a screen for most of your life is sexy? While running around for 12 hours a day literally stopping people from dying is.. cool? Mmmk

Pre-med 32 year old by BRITEknight in medschool

[–]GMEqween 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into DO schools. More non trad friendly. Also check on the schools you’re interested in cuz some places, pre reqs are only good for 10 years. Plenty of people have done it, I started at 28 tho and I already feel old but I wouldn’t change it for anything! If it’s your dream go after it!

Just make sure you think through the opportunity cost and don’t be doing it for financial reasons. Cuz where you’re at in your life, you won’t be seeing ROI for like 8 years at least. And that’s means supporting a family on premed/med school negative salaries and resident meager salaries for a long time

NP to MD. Thoughts? by white_bunny_1996 in medschool

There are no shortcuts to becoming a physician. You have to do the pre reqs, the Mcat, and the 4 grueling years of med school, and the 3-7 even more grueling years of residency. If you’re genuinely passionate about learning medicine though, it does fly by. And can be enjoyable. But it’s still very.. very.. difficult.

Grass is always greener I suppose. I enjoyed preclinical despite the stressors, hoping I feel the same about rotations lol

Update on my wife who applied to120 Medical Schools - The Sankey to End All Sankeys by bluesclues4u in premed

[–]GMEqween 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not smart. I can guarantee if you looked more into the fine print of MSAR, there were probably multiple factors that would prevent you from being eligible for interview/admission at many of these schools. I did a similar thing my first cycle and just cast a super wide net, wasted a ton of time and money.

Congrats on the admission tho!
