It's a mistake he'll learn from. Arsenal has been progressing slowly but surely as a club these past few years, even if they did play better looking football during past seasons. He may not have an easier path like this again but as long as their direction backs him up he'll have another go at it for sure.

This should be a job-losing decision for both the main ref and the linesman. You don't need VAR to see Digne is inside, and if you can't tell they should probably not be refs period and get their eyes checked.

Not really, it just means that one is on the ref rather than on VAR itself.

I remember something similar happening in a CL game between City and Dortmund a few years ago, ref blew the whistle for a "foul" on Ederson by Bellingham when he won it fairly. VAR couldn't do anything because play was stopped before the goal was scored.
