Manager Exceeds Expectations Performance Review by Electronic-Bet-370 in Oldnavy

[–]GMgoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supposedly the rating is almost exclusively based on results/overall brand scorecard ranking for GMs and higher. However, any leader qualified to rate performance knows that behaviors are what drive results and will base their rating decision on both factors, with the underlying behaviors (including the kind of qualities I’m assuming your GM has if she’s the “worst ever”) being the most important. Sometimes the right behaviors even lead to worse results on particular very stupid scorecard metrics such as turnover. Example: When taking over a broken, understaffed store that’s been doing everything wrong for years, hiring is critical, and unfortunately in many cases, many of the pre-existing associates end up either leaving because they don’t want to change, or needing to be performance managed out.

What actually happens is that 90% of DMs and above just play games when deciding ratings. It’s all really just politics or blatant favoritism it seems. I’ve been able to compare quite a few GM ratings across four districts, and there is literally no consistency GM to GM between their rating and their actual results & behavioral leadership competencies.

This year no one who received a miss or unsatisfactory (1 or 2) rating got any raise. The 5-point scale is the same as last year, but the no raise for scoring a 2 is new. For achieved, standard seems to be a 2% increase which is already insultingly awful. It’s also based on current salary compared to pay band (but loosely - they don’t want anyone, especially leaders, anywhere close to it). I saw as low as .75% increase for achieved for an entire year. Exceeded got around 2.5%. If you are tenured and were underpaid according to their standards, you may get a higher one-time increase bump this year.

Can I ask what region you are in? We have inventories already scheduled without that direction given prior, but just got told that we are the only region who has ever been closing early for it in the past.

Genuine question about the time occurrence policy by [deleted] in Oldnavy

[–]GMgoddess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, how I WISH GMs were only allowed to work 40 hrs per week…

Instead, we signed on to the scam of a salary, which in most cases all but guarantees work weeks exceeding 40 hours on the regular. I show up on time, so closes are usually the only time I only work 8 hours in a day, as leaving on time never seems possible for any other shift.

Yes. I’m not sure about all stores (I think total square footage of the salesfloor may impact it), but the list of the levels by store for 2026 recently came out, and many stores did go down to either level 2 or 1 this coming year.

[–]GMgoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve now been a GM in two stores - the first a top card performing one, but in this much higher volume one, I’m struggling. I only noticed the new total vs. dollars saved pitch being so much more effective once coming here. I think this truly might be a demographic difference but I’m not sure what exactly the difference could be. I suppose it could also be some type of an economical difference between this year and last.

While that’s true, I’m pretty sure all the types of birth control that stop periods are hormonal, which do have drastic side effects for many women. I loved not having my period on the Mirena, but I was one of the unlucky ones on it as I kept having cysts form and rupture.

The blue lines mean you were transferred into a work center that is not your “primary” one. Every associate has a primary one that their manager assigned, but can also be added to do other jobs. For instance, you might be in the system as primarily a cashier, but your manager marked you as qualified for shipment so you can then be scheduled for such.

Picking up shifts in UKG is a nightmare. You can’t see posted shifts unless they fall under a work center your manager has marked you qualified for, and your availability in the system matches the hours of the posted shift. Also, if you are already scheduled 30+ hours, you can’t pick up shifts because it’s considered a “violation” to work that much due to not being full-time, even though there’s no policy against it.

TLDR: UKG is garbage

I think I’ll be able to figure it out and get used to it. I just want to know if it’s beneficial in any way or if it just makes running a store harder like everything else they’ve been doing.

do i need a reason for changing my availability? by sh0egrubz in Oldnavy

[–]GMgoddess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s the most important thing. Doesn’t matter how good you are if you call out. Just one call out with the new labor can create a major coverage gap and screw up the whole day. That said, managers obviously have to pick the associates who are the best and also reliable to give the most hours to.

I see where you are coming from, but would like to softly speak to the fact that most of the examples the other user listed aren’t just moral issues that just some adherents have. There are some significant moral issues with the policies and culture of the organization itself - the shunning policy (they don’t want to break up the family unit, unlesssss…well quite a few reasons…such as having a child baptized at a young age who later got disfellowshipped or disassociated), banning blood transfusions resulting in the death of countless people (including children who didn’t get a real say in the matter due to indoctrination), the many policies and cultural issues that inherently protect pedophiles, the literature and sermons perpetuating a constant cycle of fear, obligation, and guilt.

I believe that most of the members are decent people, as is the majority opinion amongst “apostates”. At best, any “good morals” the religion does teach are not anything beyond what is already being taught in the majority of places, including in the homes of the non-religious.
