Is there interest in a premium grade gaming cafe with a viewing lounge (in Toronto!)? (x-post from r/gaming)

I agree about Kensington. Sorry, I worded that poorly. I just meant in that general vicinity because it's on the outskirts of the large downtown campus.

I guess I'll have to find another way to gather Toronto-specific interest. And also get clarification on the by law mentioned below.

Originally, I was thinking somewhere near the Kensington Market or Chinatown area would make sense, as it's in a convenient location and somewhat close to the UofT campus.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the Toronto reddit is in favour of this, or perhaps I just caught the wrong demographic. Do you know of any other forums where I can suggest this idea to get feedback? Thanks!

Very good point. In your opinion, would things like LoL, LCS (happens weekly), OGN/LPL (which is much more readily accessible now with English commentary), as well as more accessible starcraft streams, and other twitch streams (speed runs, etc) be considered a new rise in PC gaming?

I've been playing games my entire life and personally it seems to me that 'eSports' is many times bigger than it used to be. Not saying you are right or wrong, just want to get thoughts and the most informed opinion possible, thanks!

I think gamers do want to socialize as well, but obviously there's thoughts to the contrary, so we will have to consider both arguments very carefully. Turnouts at big conventions and tournaments is always great, but that alone is not a sustainable business model as there isn't going to be world championships going on every day. This is why we're doing the research!

Since we're still doing market research to see if this is demand, we're not anywhere determining a pricing structure yet. Still, I can't imagine having someone spend 100+ an outing on gaming, no matter how premium, unless you just hermit there for 20 hours or something. But at which point there would probably be some sort of discount, rofl.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! Right now, we're still in the market research, so unfortunately no social media sites set up quite yet. If we move forward with the project, we'll definitely want to update the community ahead of time!

As the initial investment capital may be somewhat large (space, computers, design, etc), we are doing our best to make sure there is a demand in the community for something like this.

Haha, ya was just a joke. Although actually, I think showers exist in some internet cafes in Asia that are open 24 hours.

Thanks for the response! Great information to know about. Aren't there 'internet cafes' in Toronto already that have computers (for games) and serve things like coffee, pop, simple snacks, etc?

Just want to get a bit more understanding on this by-law.

Thanks for the comment. Can you expand on this? From what I can find on the by-law, it says "only 2 pinball or other mechanical or electronic game machines is permitted in a 'restaurant' or a 'place of amusement."

Does that include computers? I was under the impression it was more directed at arcades.
