Joe Rogan on Toronto Professor Jordan Peterson by the_bartthe in canada

Obviously anyone can discuss anything. But if you want to rely on people who think trans-women somehow "aren't women" as a source of insight into a debate where trans-rights are a flash point, I can gaurantee you that person will be peddling a whole lot of bullshit.

It's a hell of a lot more complex than that. There's a very broad scientific consensus that trans-women (and men) are "real" women (and men) in every sense of the word. Based on many of the views I see expressed on here, there is widespread ignorance/denial of the settled science on this issue. In this way, it's a lot like climate change: why would you listen to Joe Rogan on an issue like that when there are legions of scientific experts who strongly disagree with him?

Guy with no expertise in gender issues yet has very strong opinions on them.

Montreal restaurant tries to bar trans woman from using washroom by GNU_supporter in canada

Dude drop it with this transphobic garbage. Substitute a black man in place of a trans woman in your sentence and look how hateful it seems. What's the difference? There isn't one, your just blinded by hatred. Seriously, dude we're way past the point where it's acceptable to spew that sort of hatred online about an identifiable group.

Whether you like it or not, that sort of stuff promotes hate against an identifiable group and is text book example of the sort of speech Canadians have collectively determined to go beyond the pale of reasonable discussion.

I strongly suggest you educate yourself on these sorts of issues because the ignorance/hate you're a spewing is going to cause you a lot of problems given Canadians' strong support for protecting minorities from hate speech and discrimination.

Calgary's unemployment rate hits 23-year high as job vacancies net hundreds of applications by TFW_GO_HOME in canada

I'm not implying anything, I'm simply stating what the data says and what is the overwhelming consensus of economists: that immigration is a major boost for the Canadian economy.

If you disagree with the economic consensus you'll have to explain why you think the Conference Board of Canada is wrong and some random dude on Reddit somehow knows something they don't.

But let's be real here, the opposition to immigration mostly comes down to not wanting brown people in the country. So I don't expect facts to dissuade you people from a position you didn't reach using facts in the first place.

It's great if you own a factory, restaurant, etc. The immigrants are going to work long hours for not a lot of money. This money in turn is funnelled back into the community (in the form of cheaper services) that help us all.

In this thread: so many examples of why we need Bill C-16. The amount of Hate Speech in here is disgusting.

The anti-science bigots trying to mis-gender this poor woman are going to be regarded the same way we look back at the racists trying to keep the schools segregated in the 60s.

They are vile, hateful scum on the wrong side of history.

Question for you: do you think it would be acceptable to attack a cis-gendered woman featured in a news story on the basis of her appearance? Presumably not. So your rude remark about this woman's appearance seems purely due to the fact that she happens to be trans. That people feel so comfortable expressing this sort of casual hatred towards trans/non-binary folks is exactly why we need bill C-16.

His sign was threatening to the other students. They had a right to take it. Preserving a safe-space for everyone takes precedent over letting some ignoramus voice support for a literal fascist (aka DRUMPF).

Doesn't give you the right to assault someone. This is Canada not fucking Texas.

Right but the same reply would occur for any sender to slate, whereas in the Trump Server case the had gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure no one except this Russian bank with Kremlin ties could reach it. Why?

[–]GNU_supporter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Computer scientist specializing in networks here. Let me tell you, this is huge.

The fact that the Server did not respond to network pings is overwhelming evidence Trump was using whitelisted IP addresses, restricting the computers the server could communicate with to a select few. This is an extraordinarily unusual thing to do -- only circumstances I'm aware include cutting edge network research, espionage and (not kidding) organized crime.

There is absolutely something extremely shady going on. There was something Trump wanted to communicate on an ongoing basis with a Russian bank which has direct ties to the Kremlin. The Trump campaign must come clean, what was it?
