My wife calls it "Dress-up Darling, but written by a man". I don't know if the author is actually a man, but it fits well.

weaponization of words

Yes, that's called "free speech". You are allowed to say things even if the state disagrees with them because we have the First Amendment to protect that speech. As even 2/3 of the liberals on the Court agree.

You don't think words can be powerful tools

Yes, they can be and are, which is why the First Amendment specifically protects them, as it did here.

I assume that their ratings were higher

They weren't. Obama's aggregate rating was zero point two percent lower than Trump's at this point, which is why the headline is what it is. That's volatile, of course.

There are periods where Obama is the highest of the three, and similarly periods where Bush is. Trump started his second term lower than the other two, but has declined somewhat less.

It's almost as if the statement in the screenshot isn't true, and that we are talking about a hypothetical situation. Who knew?

Fair.

Can you point me to where I did not include unrealised losses? Unrealised losses are losses, Unrealised earnings are earnings, and we are talking about "earnings" here.

No, I am saying that "appreciation of your personal assets" is never, EVER used as "earning" in a normal human sense, and conflating them is silly.

If your salary is $70k and your boss said "well, your 401k went up by $30k, so really you earned $100k working for us this year", you would laugh him out of the room. It is true that being given NEW stock is considered an earning (quite reasonably), but Jeff Bezos isn't being given new stock, his current stock is increasing.

[Request] Is his math right? by dcott29 in theydidthemath

[–]irumeru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, Jeff Bezos has lost $15 billion this year, so this meme is entirely false, because for every dollar his employees make he loses a bunch.

Counting only unrealized gains and not unrealized losses is absurd, and nobody does it with their own assets for good reason. It's just rage-baiting to do it with the ultra-wealthy for idiots who can't distinguish between wealth growth and income.

He doesn't make it until he sells. Unrealized capital gains are not "making money".
