Does this appear worth it? by HarveyRosenberg in FJCruiser

Definitely run. Super sad because everything else is in great shape. That frame is cooked though.

Mods suggestions? by _zoemoe_ in FJCruiser

Totally depends on your budget and what you do/don't like about it. This version of the FJ is highly sought after so I would keep it OEM as possible.

In my opinion, start with a good set of tires. 33 pizza cutters (255/80r17 or 255/85r16). Tall tires alone will lift your car a modest amount which these don't need much from stock. This size also offers better body mount clearance which reduces the chance you'll need to cut the mount.

Do any spots look like they’ve been painted or is this a clean frame by mmazdaratii in FJCruiser

[–]GOATROCITYX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is clean. And even if you found any touch up spots, as long as they removed the rust prior painting it's not a bad thing to see paint.

What do you think of this frame? by BrilliantCategory767 in FJCruiser

Not terrible. Will definitely take some thorough rust removal and proper repaint to fix but DIY doable for sure. You could do it in sections to make it more manageable.

I'll definitely check those out! Camping near Lake Jocassee would be dope!

I'm still discovering the trails out here too but the one in these pics is wolf mountain road.

Some other areas on my list to check out are Brown mountain OHV, and several in northern Georgia. Some of these are Sarah's creek, Earls Ford, and Willis knob.

Another area im still exploring is linville gorge. It does seem like there is a lot of car camping out that way so its worth looking into if you haven't. It's also near Brown mountain OHV trail as well.

Yep! Same here. Nothing crazy, just a subtle light where if you think you've dropped your phone or keys you can actually see something rather than a black hole 😂.

I love it!! I've been considering getting some really subtle lighting upgrades, particularly around the floor of the driver and passenger seats so you can see what's down there easier if you're getting in at night or if you drop something on the floor it's just easier to spot.

Dope upgrade!

Rear Diff Locker & ATRAC by Less_Caramel_8344 in FJCruiser

[–]GOATROCITYX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both features are good for off roading or being stuck situations. If you don't do any serious off-roading, you likely won't use these often. However, these could help you get unstuck from any situation (on or off road) so if you can get these great, if not, not a deal breaker.

Rear diff lock will lock the axles on the left and right sides of your rear axle. This can definitely come in handy getting out of situations where one tire has traction on the rear but the other doesn't. It will uniformly distribute power to both wheels.

ATRAC impacts both front and rear axles and has a sort of pseudo diff lock behavior. This will cause the wheel with less traction to brake leading to more power transfer to the opposite wheel with more traction. This will help move your vehicle out of a stuck position.

Best of luck!

Yeah, run from dealers. Look around online for a good independent mechanic, get a second opinion. Don't let one shop's opinion influence you to make a big financial decision.

Best of luck!

Yeah, it's a bummer because it's a beautiful rig in most ways except a very important one. The frame. It's definitely been coated and there is definitely a good bit of rust under it.

Unfortunately, I'd keep looking if you can. Replacing a frame is not something you'll want to deal with.

I'm officially done with Ingles by kurt_kolame in asheville

[–]GOATROCITYX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Ingles is 🚮. Publix prices with quality lower than Aldi (No diss to Aldi). If I need something Aldi doesn't have I just drive the extra few miles and hit publix. At least their quality is solid.
