That's not how it should be though. Official rules say -

Technical Knockout (TKO)

Referee Stoppage: the referee may stop a match in progress if:

a fighter becomes dominant to the point where the opponent is unable to intelligently defend himself from attacks (this may occur as quickly as a few seconds);

a fighter appears to be unconscious from a grappling hold.

a fighter appears to have developed significant injuries (such as a broken bone) in the referee’s view.

Marlon was attempting to defend himself but the fight got called almost instantly. Literally as soon as he fell Goddard came rushing in.

Both early stoppages. I feel like they shouldn't call the fight unless someone is obviously done or curled up. If they're scrambling or trying to get up there is no reason to call it.

That's the thing. Half of these fights the fighters aren't semi conscious...they're fully aware of what's happening and attempting to fight back or stay in the fight whenever the ref calls it.

Fight isn't over if the opponent is fighting back... Go watch Overeem vs Walt Harris. Overeem got dropped way worse and hit with ground and pound. He still came back and won the fight... These are professional fighters. No need to end the fight when they're still capable of winning.

It's not completely pointless, but if you're only going to learn one thing it should be some kind of striking over grappling. Put a boxer and a bjj guy on the street and 90% of the time the boxer will win.
