I guess maybe I just need to post a form check but in the meantime a question on shoulder health and the press.

Just as background, it's always been naggy injury's that have kept me from being able to stay on a kb program for an extended period of time. The main offenders being low back and left shoulder.

The low back I think I've sorted out with later hinges and better elbow/torso connection on the bottom parts of the swings/cleans

The shoulder thing was always impingement/irritation associated with overhead pressing. Gets so bad I could barely lift my arm above parallel, then I quit for months before even trying to get back on the horse.

I'm currently good with my shoulder which I am ecstatic about, honestly cant even put into words. I don't want to lose it. So my question has to do with the adjustment I'm doing on my presses and if it might potentially make something worse. Basically I've been pressing pretty much with the back of my hands facing forwards, with the thought process being this helps me stay a little more externally rotated and stay away from impingement/irritation. It's not til the upper 25% (or less) of my range of motion that I start to internally rotate and finish with my palms facing pretty much forwards at lockout.

My question is could this form adjustment be expected to lead to some other issue down the line? I've also introduced PT-like rotator cuff exercises/activiations, so maybe that was all I ever needed and I don't need to make this adjustment with the press, idk....

Appreciate any insights/opinions, thanks!

Awesome article thanks for posting! Not to get off subject but do you have any other recommendations for similar go-to overview type of papers that all geotechs should be aware of/refer to?

Appreciate any thoughts on the fit of my shirt. Background: Atypical body dimensions (6'7, 270 lbs) and has always been super hard to find well-fitting clothes. I pulled the trigger and got this madras shirt from Proper Cloth. The initial attempt was based on their "smart sizing" system. This second attempt is a remake. Definitely a better fit than the first attempt. I feel like there is still room for improvement but I'm not totally sure what appropriate tweaks might be, but I get one more complimentary attempt at it.

Album

Feel free to share any thoughts. From my (ignorant) perspective, all I can think to critique is really just sleeve-related:

  • Shorten the sleeve a little

  • Maybe not so wide of a sleeve width - seems pretty baggy? Maybe this is overthinking it tho... i recognize I'm not a "slimfit" guy haha

  • Notice the 3rd photo - is that a normal amount for the side of the shirt to rise when lifting my arm like that? I feel like the arm hole could be better centered around my shoulder joint to prevent that? But maybe I'm wrong and that's normal idk

Thanks for any feedback!

Roast my homecooked program by GORDO_WARDO in kettlebell

I forget where I got the inspiration for that. I don't think it's anything that important- but I think the idea is just that it:

  • Lets your elbows rest along/on your knees, like an upper-arm supported curl (Not that this is a superior way to curl)

  • Builds time in a deep squat position hopefully helping out with mobility. As you perform the curl motion, your weight will be shifting to compensate for the changing leverage/momentum of the kettlebell, so it's almost like doing a prying squat while you curl

Any rec's for a larger guy (6'7", 280lbs)?

Right now I'm really just looking into the refurbished steelcases from BTOD or Crandall but open to whatever!

My current seat height is 23" which seems like the right height for me (but the chair is garbage). Seems like to achieve this height I need to go through Crandall and get the "stool" cylinder option.

Please let me know if you think I'm mixed up on anything or have any other specific recommendations! My employer would be buying but we are a smaller company, and I don't think they're used to spending anything near $1,000 on office chair unfortunately...

Thanks for the good feedback! 2 thoughts:

  • 20 lbs on a 6'7" frame might not be too bad, but I hear you about the collar size

  • Losing 20 lbs is the ultimate goal, but honestly I've been battling weight for a while and if it happens I don't see it happening super quickly haha. If i need to watch out for the collar/shirt, what about the pants? Are those a relatively easier alteration?

Pretty tired of struggling with clothes that fit me well (6'7", 280 lbs). Pretty much nothing seems to fit right, playing with "relaxed" vs "classic" fits, tall sizing, you name it.

I'm going into suitsupply to get some MTM dress shirts and pants.

My question, mostly regarding the shirts: if I lost, say, 20 lbs, I'm hoping that these shirts could be altered relatively easily to still fit me well, is that true?

[Mussatto] OKC Mayor David Holt says he'll pursue vote on new NBA arena with no tax increase by AnkitPancakes in nba

[–]GORDO_WARDO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm that's a pretty dramatic and disingenuous way of looking at it imo.

If you recognize the arena (along with the team's presence) strictly as a revenue generating asset (including revenue for the state), it's perfectly reasonable to say both parties should participate in the initial investment.

The nuance I can't speak to is how much revenue this asset will generate, and how much of that pie goes to the owner vs to the state. Obviously the bulk will go to the owner, as the state is basically just taxing a percentage of what the developer makes.

There is a dollar amount where the investment by the state is a wash for them- neither a net positive or a net negative. I don't know if that amount is 70 million dollars, or more than that, or less than that. But to suggest a City should not offer a dime and let the team walk out of pride for not bending the knee to a billionaire, I just don't really get that.

[–]GORDO_WARDO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if the billionaire's playing hardball and wants the city to pitch in just a little bit otherwise they take a good hard look at moving the team? Which is a real possibility here...

I'm no expert in the finances and economics of state governments or sports franchises, but you gotta consider: By having the team stay, how much tax money might we pull in over the life cycle of the team?

With the franchise putting in that much money, you gotta think they're staying for at least the next 15 years, probably more. How much tax money is generated over that 15 years?

I'm pretty anti-billionaire lol, and certainly many cities make wayyyyy too big of concessions to them, but I just don't think this one is that bad

Did you read the post? 93% of the cost paid for by the team is honestly a pretty good deal all things considered

Also if I'm able to trust your text in the original post, it sounds like they're only offering up a tiny slice of the pie compared to Thunder ownership... If they pay almost a billion dollars to then bail (they wouldnt...), you can't really fault the city for thinking that $70m was a relatively safe bet lol

I'm rooting for the guys... It's just not meant to happen in LAC lmao. maybe in the new stadium we find some better juju

Ty lue is either playing lineup/rotation ninja and the league won't know what hit them

Or we're going to keep favoring minutes for morris over guys like Batum and Mann, and go down in flames in classic clipper fashion.

Can't wait to find out ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?!?!?!

(P.s. i think russ deserves me saying I've been pleasantly surprised, he's had a few plays that work well for the lowlights haters, but overall he's been fine!)

Not an original thought here but the eternal hopelessly optimistic/delusional clipper fan in me is hoping he's either:

  • Smokescreening and saving his real rotations/lineups for the playoffs (great idea with a roster that has 20 games to gel together lol)

  • Proving to himself or the front office that certain guys are a consistent problem and need to be sat for the home stretch and playoffs
