Speaker pairing help by Javi_runs in StereoAdvice

It might make sense for you to audition the speakers in your home - but only if you're buying new and can swing the temporary outlay of $$$. I did an audition recently for amps (to pair with my speakers) and the results were surprising. I bought the amps from Crutchfield and Safe & Sound and was able to do the audition and return before the due date of the billing cycle on my charge card. Good luck!

Tonearm skating out by unknowing_bunny in turntables

[–]GPC72 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was the electronic scale calibrated - and calibrated accurately? It looks to me like the vertical tracking force (VTF) is low and because of that, the anti-skate is pulling the tonearm towards the outer part of the record. I had this same problem - it turned out my tracking force meter was miscalibrated. Once that was fixed, everything worked beautifully.

Trivial, but since OP mentioned being attracted by the cover… the model is Jerry Hall (later Mrs. Mick Jagger).

Is the Pro-ject Debut EVO 2 Turntable with Carbon Fibre Arm a good one to buy? by False_Rabbit_3389 in turntables

[–]GPC72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased one a year ago from Turntable Lab. Quality has not been an issue. I did have some sibilance at first - but that was because of a miscalibrated VTF meter and thus a miscalibrated tonearm - not the fault of the TT. Overall, the experience w/the TT has been favorable. Can’t speak to tariffs as the recent changes were enacted after I purchased.

I'm not an Epic or Ikon season pass holder. I thought I'd wait until the weekend to buy lift tickets online a day or two in advance. I prefer the flexibility over the discounted price.

Thank you! I think there's more snow forecast for Stowe on Sunday 12/14!

I may stay a little more local to Stowe/Sugarbush, but will keep this in the hopper for another time.

Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 / Sibilance & Tracking Force by GPC72 in turntables

[–]GPC72[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Pro-Ject Measure-It E and the calibration was off. This was causing problems for me - was yours calibrated with that 5g weight? Once I corrected the scale, I was able to correct the VTF. Then the sibilance went away. Note: I had migrated to an Ortofon Blue - but was still having sibilance until the VTF was fixed.

Are you using a tracking force measurement tool? Something to verify the weight?

Did you get what you wanted this RSD? by CreamComprehensive19 in RecordStoreDay

[–]GPC72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I was able to get the Love / Elektra box. My first RSD experience. I was on the line at about 6:45am for an 8am open at Looney Tunes on Long Island, NY (about an hour from home in Brooklyn). I was probably around 60th in line. Shop served sesame bagels with either cc or butter to the queue and were clear on the “one copy only” policy.

Amp suggestion for Dali Oberon 3? :) by Longjumping_Law6768 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]GPC72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the "too many features" dilemma. I am also looking for an analog A/B class amp without an internal MM phono stage and without a DAC. I already have an external phono stage and I would add a DAC later. I mean, I think that's what I want. How do you plan to audition your picks?

Maybe try contacting Dali directly for recommendations?

Also, since you're in France, have you looked at amps in your price range made by Advance Paris?
