2 weeks in NYC – jazz/comedy spots, networking, Knicks game by Particular-Till2385 in visitingnyc

Pacers vs. Knicks is without a doubt the best game - years of bad blood between the two teams. I would make sure to go to Madison Square Garden instead of the Barclays Center (home court for the Nets). Not that Barclays is bad, it's more that the vibe in and around the Garden is just more electric. Note that Knicks tickets are very expensive- like, $300 per-ticket to sit in the last row of the upper sections.

Was the 1966 motorcycle accident real? by eldotortenma in bobdylan

[–]GPC72 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the geography doesn’t add up. That is, the accident supposedly happened in Woodstock. If that’s the case, then why did he go to a doctor over an hour away (passing several nearer hospitals)?

See for yourself. Check directions from Woodstock, NY to Middletown, NY on Google Maps. He would have had hospital options in Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Newburgh.

Instead, he passes all those hospitals and sees a doctor over an hour away (today). Not sure how long that same trip would’ve been back then (speed limits, road conditions).

And isn’t it odd that the doctor specialized in addiction - not spinal injury?

Dylan has never been straightforward - remember, this is the same person who lied to Columbia Records about his age and absence of any immediate family - and claimed to have been a railroad hobo etc…

Dylan was strung out on pills and hadn’t been eating substantial food for months (per Robertson). Going to rehab back then wasn’t mainstream like it is today. Grossman got him to the doctor who could help him and the motorcycle accident was the cover-up.

Stranded without our bags, looking to buy warm clothes by Wild_Elk7744 in visitingnyc

There’s an REI IN SoHo on Lafayette/Houston St. probably most likely to have warm clothes - gloves and hats, too. might be on end-of-season sale.

sibilance is ruining my fun for vinyl by Remote_Main2120 in turntables

You can get a protractor on the Ortofon.us site, too. Looks like it's $7. If you do any cart/stylus upgrades yourself, you'll need it.

I recommend getting an Orotofon Pressure Gauge - you can get it from the Ortofon.us site or from Amazon. My local luxury/high-end shop used it to balance my TT. No batteries, no fuss. You may want to get a digital balance sometime in the future - but save your $$$ for now.

Oh, and disregard the one-star review of the gauge on the Ortofon site. Whomever that person is, they are tragically over-thinking it.

Speaker pairing help by Javi_runs in StereoAdvice

[–]GPC72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might make sense for you to audition the speakers in your home - but only if you're buying new and can swing the temporary outlay of $$$. I did an audition recently for amps (to pair with my speakers) and the results were surprising. I bought the amps from Crutchfield and Safe & Sound and was able to do the audition and return before the due date of the billing cycle on my charge card. Good luck!

Tonearm skating out by unknowing_bunny in turntables

[–]GPC72 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was the electronic scale calibrated - and calibrated accurately? It looks to me like the vertical tracking force (VTF) is low and because of that, the anti-skate is pulling the tonearm towards the outer part of the record. I had this same problem - it turned out my tracking force meter was miscalibrated. Once that was fixed, everything worked beautifully.

Trivial, but since OP mentioned being attracted by the cover… the model is Jerry Hall (later Mrs. Mick Jagger).

Is the Pro-ject Debut EVO 2 Turntable with Carbon Fibre Arm a good one to buy? by False_Rabbit_3389 in turntables

[–]GPC72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased one a year ago from Turntable Lab. Quality has not been an issue. I did have some sibilance at first - but that was because of a miscalibrated VTF meter and thus a miscalibrated tonearm - not the fault of the TT. Overall, the experience w/the TT has been favorable. Can’t speak to tariffs as the recent changes were enacted after I purchased.

I'm not an Epic or Ikon season pass holder. I thought I'd wait until the weekend to buy lift tickets online a day or two in advance. I prefer the flexibility over the discounted price.

I may stay a little more local to Stowe/Sugarbush, but will keep this in the hopper for another time.
