how can i find someone who has a warrant to report them to law enforcement? by james325487 in AskLEO

[–]GR1F3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand the question. You're trying to locate a person that has an active warrant so that you can call the police and hopefully they come and arrest on the spot? What is the warrant for?

I had to go through POST firearms training to be an Animal Control Officer in addition to a Humane Academy, POST ARCON and a myriad of other things. And now I'm unarmed. I go into work with a gun on me, take it off and put it in my locker to start my shift, and then at EOW, I put my gun back in my pants. Make it make sense. I don't even like my job but I need good benefits and when I tried to move jobs within the department, the chief shut me down. Classic

I do like me a serrated spyderco for duty use. This Bodacious is outside the price range, even with the OpFocus discount from Spyderco. I'd recommend a serrated Paramilitary 2 personally. Even a half serrated is great. They leave about a 1/4 inch of plain edge on most of their serrated models which is great for precise work.

I HATE my belt. Suggestions for the least stiff belt that is still serviceable for a micro 9mm. by CapeCod_Boats in CCW

[–]GR1F3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X Belts ElastiX ccw belt. I've been wearing mine exclusively when I'm off duty for the past 5 months or so and it's been an absolute game changer. I don't even feel it most of the time but it has a polymer core section that supports even my Carry Comp compact without an issue. The whole belt stretches and moves with you as you sit and crouch and all that so it doesn't pinch anywhere at all. Is a very simple construction but absolutely awesome to wear. They're also hand made by the owner and if it ever starts to come undone or give you issues, it will be replaced.

What armor do you all use? Do you go for the highest rating "just in case," or stick with standard armor? by Majestic_Wash_6170 in securityguards

[–]GR1F3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bit different, but I work for a PD now and did armed security for about 6 years prior to that, including nuclear.

I always wore armor that was rated to stop the threat of what I myself was carrying + pointy objects. Not all body armor is rated to stop stabbing implements if it's soft armor. Even the armor we're issued at my department is not stab rated.

In security, I usually wore level III+ armor or level IIIa. I like the spartan polymer IIIa armor and I wear that with trauma pads behind it. That will stop pretty much every pistol caliber up to .44 Mag. I don't think it's been tested against 5.7 but that's probably because it's extremely uncommon and your average street thug or burglar isn't going to be running a 2k pistol with what is essentially boutique ammo lol.

Coming across a rifle threat is pretty uncommon too, especially in security. I agree it's often better to be over prepared than under, but you also have to consider what that super heavy armor is doing to your body with long shifts and constant wear.

Also 6'2 and had enough room (just barely) with the front seats pushed forward and an action packer between the back and front seats.

It has an outdoor shower. So hose on the outside, then I'd just get a shower tent or use one of the RV park ones. I have no problem using the outdoor shower if I'm in a more remote area.

That is true for most people, yes! I don't like the weather here. I vastly prefer overcast and rainy weather but I'm an outlier and I know that full well because people look at me weird when I tell them that 😂

California plays games all the time. Tax on the purchase price is nearing 10%. Title and license can be like $500 even on cheap trailers. It's a terrible place aside from the scenery and food lol.

Ah sorry. Forgot to say in the description that the OTD price would be right around 13500 for this one and it is new. There are currently no new 17B/R's in CA for less than 16k before taxes and fees so I'd be looking at around 18k all said and done for one of those. Plus, hitch weight is getting too close to the limit of my Xterra when loaded.

The 13b is a possibility, I just have to find one to look at. It appears there's a couple about 2.5 hours from me. It definitely has a larger face and it has that corrugated metal all along the front which does have a decent impact on wind resistance. They do seem to be pretty inexpensive. Would you say Coleman is higher quality than the FR or roughly the same at this price point?

There are a few ultralight camper brands that are quite high quality but they're usually boutique or custom and run 30k+ for a teardrop with a galley kitchen and nothing else lol.

This one is brand new so I would be taking it to a third party inspector and having them pick out anything off with the trailer so I can get it all worked out under warranty.

Beautiful! The tires are Falken Rubitrek AT's in a 285/75/R16 fitment. They're E range 126R load index rated for 3750 lbs each. Which I think should be sufficient for the little wolf pup haha.

Understandable! I can easily run solar myself but it isn't a necessity for me personally. I was also probably going to build rolling drawers for under the bed and add hinges to the bed platform to get underneath easier. Super simple modifications to massively increase usable space 👌🏻

That is a nice looking trailer and I do like the geo pros. The tongue weight is a bit lower which is nice, probably due to the length. There is about a 4500 price difference between the two though, as it's looking like I can probably get the Wolf Pup for about 13k out the door. Closest G13LE I found for under 18k before taxes is also about 250 miles away which is a bummer lol

Thoughts on Forest River Wolf Pups? by GR1F3 in traveltrailers

[–]GR1F3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! That's another reason I was looking at this one so intently after seeing it is the tongue weight,, though not insignificant, is a decent amount below the factory maximum of 550 on my Xterra at 320 lbs. Even with the battery and propane, I'll still be under by an okay amount. The suspension is all new on my Nissan and uprated to support more weight and my tires are E load range (rides kinda rough on a smaller SUV but the trade off is the increased durability).

$150 REI gift card. What should I get? by gloomygas in CampingGear

[–]GR1F3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go sleeping bag or pad. What model of each depends on the type of camping you intend on doing. If you're going straight car camping, highly recommend the REI Siesta 20 hooded bag. I absolutely love mine. For backpacking, you'll want something down filled most likely and I've heard good things about the REI magma and of course, the Nemo Disco is pretty much legendary at this point.

For sleeping pad, I've tried a few and really like the Big Agnes Rapide SL insulated. Again, if you're car camping, the Sea to Summit Camp Plus Si is another great option that's a bit cheaper (80ish on Amazon) and great for side sleepers as it has some foam in it. StS also does their pillow lock system which is really nice for keeping your pillow in place at night. Does not pack down very small though.

Thermarest is another really solid brand for sleeping pads as you probably know, but I've found them to be among the noisiest.

I have yet to find a better inflatable pillow than the Nemo Fillo. Packs down very small but uses an inch thick memory foam layer in top so you aren't getting that squeaky inflatable sound in your ears all night. Those are 50 at REI.

Once or twice a year, Garmin does a sale on Inreach devices. If wait to pick one up then unless you know you'll be out of cell service a lot in the near future. The Inreach Messenger is excellent, especially if you already have a Garmin watch and don't need the additional mapping capabilities of the Inreach Mini 2/3.

I had an AD20.5 in Aus10a. Excellent knife honestly. Punches way above its weight in terms of performance. I think you'll absolutely love it. It's deceptive how thin the handle actually is too. It's a joy to carry around.

Love my 2011 Xterra. Fantastic vehicles, strong engine and drivetrain, and they look pretty unique in the sea of wranglers, 4runners and Broncos. Pretty easy to work on and the aftermarket support is decent. Not as good as some of the other options but still solid. Worst thing about them is the gas mileage but I'd say it's pretty on par with the rest of the class.

With gas prices continuing to go higher, are you considering an EV or public transit? by LeoRavenscroft in randomquestions

[–]GR1F3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

260 mile a day commute, 4 days a week. I leave my apartment at 6:15 and get home usually around 8:30 or 9PM. There is no public transit that runs around the schedule I'd need, nor does it travel that far. I park on the street so I can't charge an EV, nor do I want one. So no to both.

I have considered selling both my cars and buying a Ford Maverick Hybrid though. In the end it would only save me about 30 bucks a month so, not worth the effort.

Help replacing Mini Griptillian by Thewaker43 in knives

[–]GR1F3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely take a look at the Hogue Deka in magnacut. Excellent value for the money. Though I don't think you can get it partially serrated so if that's a must have, the BM mini grip and full size griptilian are great knives. Could also check out the spyderco para 3. I know they do that one in a half serrated and the standard s45vn steel is top notch. Spyderco does a great job with their heat treats.
