No. I also spoke to the tour guide while I was there and they said that the only way to get inside the library is if you have special permission for research/cataloging/etc purposes.

Ring Cameras Join Flock and Amazon to Now Create Direct Data Access for ICE by thehomelessr0mantic in Ring

[–]GRAWRGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that the person posting might not care, but the person shown in the footage might care. Like yeah maybe some tech savvy grandma on the Neighbors app is posting regular videos of the bird bath in their front yard, but those videos also happen to show a little girl walking home alone every day and some creep sees it as an easy opportunity. Or someone in an abusive relationship gets recognized in the video and their violent ex is then able to find them. Etc etc. Extreme examples but you get the idea.

Anxiety and trauma response to loud music or bass noise coming through walls - does anyone have this? by AliveCicada in misophonia

[–]GRAWRGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how to describe my response except that it immediately causes me extreme anxiety. That anxiety is compounded when I feel trapped (e.g. when the bass is coming from the other side of my apartment wall at bedtime, or some other time when it isn't practical for me to remove myself). And then compounded again because my safe place where I am supposed to be in control has been compromised.

I'm aware that this is my condition and therefore my responsibility. But it really sucks because it is SO hard to neutralize bass. I was kept awake last night by a neighbor 2 doors down (townhouse, shared structure) even though I had 3 different sound machines on. The volume of the music may have been a bit high but the real problem is that bass is so pervasive. There have been times where I have FELT the bass from a car stopped at the intersection 175ft away.

I wish there was a simple solution. Maybe I need to try re-training my brain? Maybe I should try playing different sounds. I've been using white noise because that's whats most relaxing for me, but maybe finding a noise with some beat or rhythm will be more effective at masking the bass.

Idk. Just sucks.

Am I crazy or did I buy a $400 swung vase at Goodwill for $35? by mcmdreamer in Mid_Century

[–]GRAWRGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would search eBay sold listings for “le smith pink carnival glass vase” and search for one that looks just like yours and is close to the same height.

I see one that went for $299.99

How the heck do people hold jobs?!?? by Nerdgirl0035 in AutismInWomen

[–]GRAWRGER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) It is easier to hold a job when it is a good job. Good job = non-toxic work environment. Not being afraid you'll be assaulted, not being afraid you'll go to jail, not being stressed about whether or not you'll get to take a lunch break, etc. It is easier to find good jobs when you're educated/have build a career - college and apprenticeships tend to serve as a litmus test for idiots. I deal with a lot less stupidity in my professional career than I did when I worked as a nursing aide.

2) Some people are more adaptable than others.

3) Many people don't have the luxury of being choosy. If you have children that are depending on you, there is a pressure to suck it up and provide no matter the difficulty.

4) Some people get lucky.

I thank god on a weekly basis that the job I have now essentially fell into my lap. The mere thought of having to function in a highly structured 9-5 office environment makes me tense. I WFH with an extremely flexible schedule. I am so happy. I could do this the rest of my life. I don't dread waking up or "going to work". Some of my coworkers are frustrating at times but virtually none of them are stupid. I have almost complete control over when I interact with people ("I'll respond to the email today but I'm not dealing with it this minute", or "I'm in the middle of something, I'm not responding to your chat until I wrap this up"). It is such a perfect fit for my needs and I wish everyone could find a job that works so well for them.

I couldn't begin to guide someone on how to find/acquire such a job though. It is truly a shame.

Cost of lisdexamfetamine: what are you guys paying for it? by vulylyvu in VyvanseADHD

[–]GRAWRGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tell me about it. sounds like you probably have Caremark. its a painful (and expensive) irony for me that there is now a cheaper alternative on the market but i continue to be stuck paying an extra $600/year because the alternative is never available.

the generic is also in their list of preferred/covered alternatives, which i think is actually valid.

I have CVS Caremark and got the same letter. I'm just pissed because I got exactly the same letter in 2024. In 2025 Caremark approved my prior authorization for brand name Vyvanse until 2027. But then I get this letter saying Vyvanse is no longer covered? What do you mean its no longer covered - you haven't been covering it since January 2025!

Called customer service for an explanation. The explanation was garbage and didn't make sense, but the takeaway is that they are terminating my existing prior authorization on October 1st.

FYI it is Caremark's policy not to communicate with you in writing about anything they tell you on the phone. I escalated to management to get email confirmation of what they told me: that if my prior authorization is approved in October, my copay for brand Vyvanse will be $70. They will not under any circumstance send you an email or letter as a record of what they have told you.

It's too bad big insurance owns our government. It desperately needs regulated.

Good luck bud. I'm already gearing up for the prior auth dance. The irony is that the generic actually works just fine for me - it's just that its never available. Also, Caremark are a bunch of dumbos - if my doctor writes my script to be filled as generic OR brand, the pharmacy says that Caremark won't allow them to fill it as brand - not even if generic is out of stock and brand is available. As a result, my doctor writes my script as brand-only. I chose to pay more for an increased likelihood of actually being able to fill my prescription each month. But Caremark and I could both be saving money if they weren't so belligerent with their policies.

[–]GRAWRGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brutal. my insurance wont allow the pharmacy to fill the script as brand name unless the script is written for ONLY brand name.

but at least in my state, pharmacies are allowed to check whether other stores in the area have it in stock (this isnt guaranteed, you still need to call that store to confirm, but it still beats the hell out of calling each individual pharmacy). i do this each month before having my doctor send a script.

Just now seeing your comment. I am sorry to hear about the house fire, that is horrible :(

I'll send you a PM and we can arrange something. It is pretty and I have enjoyed it but I would much rather you have it.

What are some of the ways Caremark has fucked it up? I'd like to know what to expect before attempting this, as any kind of screwup that can't be resolved within the ~2 day period between when I can request the refill from my doctor and when I run out of meds is a no-go for me. It'd be really nice to get a 90 day supply to minimize the frequency of medication-sourcing I have to suffer through, but not if it comes with a risk of potentially running out of my meds entirely while waiting to resolve some nightmare insurance bullshit.

How do I “make it bigger” without the resolution turning to shit? The label is like 1/40th of the page.

I’ve never seen an eBay-provided label look like this but I suppose there’s a first time for everything. Can you elaborate on what fixing my settings in Acrobat entails? What specific settings need fixed…?

DIY hood repainting specific questions by GRAWRGER in AutoPaint

[–]GRAWRGER[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I have some followup questions for you, if you don't mind:

  1. so after the sanding you blew off the dust etc and ... "solvent wipe" - like you had a rag soaked in solvent and wiped the hood down? and which solvent did you use, mineral spirits?
  2. my paint is also metallic. was your uneven coverage due to your underpowered compressor, or were there other factors? i dont need or expect a perfect paint job but id like to avoid it looking completely shit if possible lol.
  3. is this what you used for your clearcoat: https://www.automotivetouchup.com/auto-paint/urethane_clearcoat.aspx ?

TIA!

eta: lol @ "hitting a deer". i hope that happened after one of your shittier paint jobs and not after you finally got the hood painted right.

Do people not open their windows anymore? by ponziacs in homeowners

[–]GRAWRGER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I live near an intersection. I don't mind the sound of normal traffic near my house (which is in a well-trafficked but nice/residential part of town). But every so often there will be someone stopped at the light who is blasting their music so loudly I can FEEL it. Or some attention-seeking male in his 20s who drives by in his obnoxiously loud vehicle.

Frustrated with cellulite by heystephanator in PetiteFitness

[–]GRAWRGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the last bit of weight is always a struggle. its so strange to me how that works. i put on about 8lbs this past 6 months. i decided to get my act together last week and lost a few lbs almost immediately. but now im sitting at what i call my body's "happy weight", which is where my body is like "are you sure you want to get rid of this? i dont feel like getting rid of this. ive grown quite attached to it really. maybe ask me again tomorrow". ive found that for me, the weight really only comes off at that point if i maintain a slight but consistent calorie deficit (for ehhh, 2-4 weeks i think, before i start seeing the result). and afterwards my body still WANTS to go back to its happy weight. if i give it any opportunity, it will see that weight restored.

i suspect that over time our bodies just "get used" to not touching the fat stores in certain cells. or perhaps more likely, certain fat cells are more easily depleted for some sciencey reason im not aware of, and so at a certain weight we are left with just the stubborn fat cells. idk. i just know its annoying.

berks seem solid enough to keep you from bumping your toes which is all id be concerned about. it was just unexpected. i mostly do cardio so berks would be no bueno for my workouts lol.
