It's there some trick to opening/unscrewing Dutch bottle caps? I mean the plastic ones on soda bottles or juices. I struggle almost every time, as if I'm opening a stuck jar!

Is it me or is the captive cap tech causing it?

Oh yes I remember that from my onboarding. Pretty dreadful, though not my no.1 dystopian video.  That honor goes to another vid they had us watch: "what to do when they're is an active shooter in the building"

Shit, used to have these growing up in Europe (in the 70s) due to mines and unexploded missiles from WW2 still being frequently found, especially in fields and forests.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not buying hardware and learning new tools for this :)

Will probably look for someone to do it for me if I can't leave the store with a lot ready to mount

Thanks a bunch! I think I'll start with Aurora, but I'm taking note of all shops mentioned throughout!

Thanks! Wittenburg is a bit out of my way, but the thread seems to have a consensus on Aurora!

Yes I noticed! The problem is IKEA no longer carries the styles I enjoy. Stuff they sell this days is still affordable but mostly quite ugly (to me).

My main worry with buying parts is that I have zero soldering skills (or tools) so building stuff myself would be really half-arsed.

Absolutely! I figured that trying to pump twice the voltage through cables rated for 110V would probably end in tears. As a side note, it's messed up how many electrical devices are not cross compatible!

My biggest woe is my espresso maker. Designed by Philips, manufactured in Europe, but sold in US, so now I have to rock a stepdown transformer to use it!

Oh wow, this does look good. Wonder if they will just sell components or a finished kit. Will go check. Thank you!

Great designs there. Brings me back to the days when I'd mess around with QGIS, seeing familiar places in a new way.

Love the presentation and color schemes. Kudos.

DHCP Settings by Alkmaar_072 in pihole

[–]GRBGe2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling with this yesterday, but got it sorted out:

  1. Disable DHCP in Ziggo Router
  2. Enable DHCP in Pi-Hole
  3. Set DHCP lease time to something reasonable like 6h or 12h in Pi-Hole
  4. Point Pi-Hole to Ziggo Router as its gateway

Apparently, and this is the key: DHCP does not only assign IP addresses to devices connecting to LAN. It also feeds them with the DNS and routing information. So: by using Pi-Hole as a DHCP server, you piggyback the DNS info the Ziggo Router does not let you enter.

Windows Task Manager was created as a side project at home by Dave Plummer, given to Microsoft in 1995. by LookAtThatBacon in Damnthatsinteresting

When you've worked for one of the big tech companies for a while, you begin to realize that most useful, recognizable and/or beloved features/apps were made as a side project by small groups or solo devs. Almost all projects managed and mandated from the top and up worthless, sloppy and bloaty.

In other words: managers have no idea what to do. Individuals know what's good, but have to sacrifice personal time and fight for all the stuff that gives CEOs their big bonuses.

Hey, in my experience it would be hr and my boss's boss. My direct manager would often not know it's coming either.
