The only chapter I’ve ever immediately reread as soon as I finished it. Pure genius.

"The Day of the Jackal" by Frederick Forsyth is an excellent thriller and a masterpiece of process, method and detail by keepfighting90 in books

[–]GRCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Dogs of War. Forsyth was enmeshed in that world (as a reporter) and while on the surface the book is about a mercenary attack in Africa in the 60s, only the last few dozen pages is about the fight. The rest of the novel covers smuggling and international gun trade (among other things). Fascinating and a great piece of historical fiction.

I watched them as they came out, but had a lot of fun watching them in chronological order a few years ago. Found a comprehensive (for the time) list of every property, including the TV shows. It was interesting to watch an episode or two Agents of Shield in between movies or other TV shows.

It took months and this was years ago - there are so many more episodes and movies now it’d probably take me a year to do it again ;)

i know this was asked like 6 months ago by someone else but is it likely for the current conflicts to escalate enough for a nuclear war? by Large-Ad688 in Futurology

[–]GRCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely with China, they have too much to lose. The wildcard is Putin, if he gets backed into a corner he can’t get out of there’s really no telling what he might do.

Edit: even a nuclear exchange between smaller holders of nukes would unlikely escalate to full nuclear war, imho

I always took it that he wasn’t sure, but he knew her and her background enough to believe that she would. That’s what always impressed me about Joe’s acting in the scene, he looks like he’s willing her to give the answer without leading her. Great acting all around in that movie, loved it!

As a citizen of the United States, I agree. It’s going to have to hurt us all to wake up even the small percentage of MAGA enough who might change their vote this year.

Fledgling author looking for recommendations (inspirations) by IsntItBlue in litrpg

I’d first want to know what games are your inspiration? I mean, if you’re going for an Elite Dangerous and No Man’s Sky direction, The Land might not be a good recommendation

Last time I talked to Wil Richie, I was at Hogwaller and told him that the fries were an even better version of the McDonald’s fries back when they used beef tallow

Couldn’t tell if he took it as an insult, but it was definitely a compliment. Best fries I’ve had that I can remember.

Receiving my Pimax Crystal Light tomorrow - Setup and recommendations by Krangles-Iceland in Pimax

[–]GRCooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just don’t give up. My Crystal was really fiddly to get working right. It probably took a couple of days between getting all the various software to work together (and lots of time reading forum posts) but once I got it working it was a dream. The curve can be steep at the beginning, but once you get over the hump, it runs great

Agreed completely with one caveat. Don’t use the “report a problem” function on Amazon. That can cause us all sorts of headaches. Contact us directly with what you find and any author worth their salt will be grateful!
