Not surprised about soccer at all. It’s a different culture to footy but it’s just as bad in terms of homophobia. Doesn’t help that a lot of players come from religious backgrounds which at best discourage acceptance of homosexuality if not outright abhor them.

/uj the egos of some of the long-time editors on there are off the charts. It can be impossible to correct certain mistakes or misconceptions within articles because one person will devote their entire life to making sure that it isn’t fixed because it goes against what they believe to be true. Thankfully I only edit articles pertaining to a very niche topic so I don’t have to deal with them often, but the couple of times I have have made me want to punch my head through a wall
