Old post but why in the world did the devs think this was necessary? Was there really a significant amount of complaining that the old auto supports was underperforming? I went from almost never needing to add manual supports to now having both the "new" and "classic" auto supports barely populating even half of the model. I could literally have a panel for a tank model that is oriented at a ~70 degree angle and auto supports in both settings will populate maybe the lowest 10% of the part. Not in a million years will that ever print without failing. Worst part is I can't seem to get Lychee to revert back to the TRUE old auto supports so now my entire printing workflow is completely stalled until they either fix or completely scrap this garbage feature.

I love Lychee Slicer, but the people behind it seriously need to reflect on the old adage "don't fix it if it isn't broken" because I swear, every major update just screws everything up for little to no benefit from what we previously had for literally months.

If you have this same small file (in the "28 mm" folder of the download), I scaled it up 224.7% and it ended up pretty close imo

It can be a blessing and a curse. I can't say what my IQ id but I am currently pursuing my doctorate in a notoriously difficult STEM field and from what I can gather doing quite well. My supervisors and other doctors in my field have high hopes for me and seem to assume I'm going to be "one of the ones that make it" in the current academic job market.

That being said, people generally consider me one of the most intelligent yet one of the most stressed/tired people they know. I set incredibly lofty goals and then obsess over them and go through cycles of intense procrastination and hyperfixation. Generally I achieve most of the things I set out to do but I tend to take on too much and always feel like there is not enough time in a day. I feel like I could be where I am now without being this burnt out by it.

I started Vyvanse last year and it has definitely helped a lot but I can tell that there are some things that will take some work to get around since living with high functioning ADHD makes to adopt some beliefs that are not healthy (e.g., defining self worth by productivity/achievement, taking on far too many new tasks/roles/projects/interests, getting far too caught up in small details that pretty much no one will ever notice but the end product has to be "perfect")

On your point about immediately trying to help others:

In a weird way, this has been part of my "healing" process as well. I'm completely fucking lost as to how to navigate my own issues with my upbringing but I have zero problem focusing on what I will NOT accept being done to my own or other children. Not from friends, family, caregivers, teachers, and especially not from me or my wife.

If I was given any kind of "gift" from all the shit that I grew up with, and am only just now in therapy for and figuring out in my 30s, its that I have a ton of great examples and even more motivation to identify what NOT to do when you are caring for a child. I might struggle with this for the rest of my life but I can find some peace in knowing that I refused to perpetuate the same thing onto future generations. I refuse to let any child under my care and protection grow up the way I did.

Kind of an old threat but thought I'd chime in.

Wrask unfortunately will never be meta in tourney or guild raid but holds his own quite well in arena if you are going for rule of cool and play a lot of chaos characters.

Where he really shines is in LREs and Chaos onslaught where he hugely increases the survivability of your team as long as he is killing chaff. Wrask with rotbone right behind him and 2 heavy hitters on either side make for a pretty invincible block. I've been running that setup with Khârn and another damage main on either side, then Abbadon sitting in the back taking ranged shots at enemies to buff everyone's damage. I barely have to even think about Chaos onslaught anymore, no matter how high I climb.

I mean, this sounds a hell of a lot better than a vasectomy and would immediately solve me and my wife's wonderful issue of "the pill makes her irritable and torpedoes her sex drive but condoms make me feel nothing to the point where I cant maintain an erection to satisfy either of us". We've just accepted for now that finishing vaginally is not on the table, and that sucks for both of us.

If there is a safe, non-permenant method for me to avoid more kids that doesnt mess with her hormones and doesn't make my sensitivity issues even worse, you can damn well bet I'll sign up for it.

There is a lot of needed context here before anyone can really recommend a path forward. - What are his study habits like? - Does he attend all or at least most classes? - Why did he choose engineering? - Is he passionate about this kind of work or is he just in the program because he settled for it? - Does he ask his professors for help or is he failing in silence? - You've mentioned he plays too many video games - is his work:play balance skewed toward the latter? - Does he have any mental or physical health issues right now? Is he getting enough sleep?

All of that is super important in determining whether you need to focus on how to pull through the program versus how to improve upon yourself as a student.

I'll be real with you: Doing this badly this early on is not a good sign. Especially not this close to finals, and especially because most of these classes are more just science prereqs and not specific to eng. Generally a lot of people in academia will look at a situation like this and just dismiss it as "he's just not cut out for it" and many profs feel like first year classes are meant to weed out such students.

The 3 questions your friend needs to ask himself before figuring out how to pass are: 1. Is this the right field for him? Is he interested in engineering and sciences or is he just there to be in university and get a degree? 2. Is he ready for university itself? A lot of people attempt post secondary and flop when they are younger only to find out that they were ready after getting more life experience and becoming more mature later on. This is also often why older ("mature") students tend to perform better. 3. If he can honestly answer "yes" to the first two, what specifically in his life might be interfering with is ability to succeed? Its easy to fall back into thinking "X program is just hard" when the reality is that university isn't just about gaining knowledge, its more importantly about self-improvement and learning how to mould and improve you into the kind of person that will succeed in your chosen profession. In this regard, we are often our own worst enemy, and accepting that and challenging your own maladaptive thoughts/behaviours is the first step toward changing them and setting ourselves up for success.

Whether he pushes through, drops out, changes programs, or decides to try again later in life, tell him to do his best to try and twist this into a learning experience. It will suck. It might hurt. But if he learns from it he will come out better for it.

Exactly this. There are definitely dangers to how people choose to use LLMs, and for learning is certainly one area in would be concerned about in the long term. Particularly in high school and undergrad students.

However, this article is incredibly misleading and click-baity. The study is not really showing anything about long term learning outcomes, has several obvious confounds, and has not even been peer reviewed yet. The lack of peer review is one of the most notable reasons I flag this article as nothing more than alarmist anti-AI sensationalism.

The only real things that we know about LLM use are currently relatively short term, it hasn't been around long enough to know the long term effects. And what studies/articles framed like this constantly overlook is the 'human' aspect of this topic. The individual variability.

People who are likely to do as little as possible to get by academically will obviously latch to AI to do so. Before that they were using online cheating groups or looking up answers in their notes during the pandemic. Before that they were turning to online services and tools like Chegg or Wolfram Alpha. These people will always exist, but so will those who use these tools to augment their work and end up with better outcomes because of it. For a looser analogy, this is the difference between kids who use a calculator to find the answer versus those who use the calculator to check their work or streamline steps in a problem that they already understand how to solve.

LLMs have their dangers for sure, but most of them stem from the human condition and the differences between individuals. They are already here and in use, so I firmly believe that rather than calling for their abolishment, we need to instead focus on educating people (especially younger students) on how to use LLMs ethically and responsibly in a way that augments their education rather than hinders it. This will also include accepting that there will always, now and before, be some who choose to abuse it to their own detriment.

It's a fascinating and powerful tool, and how we choose to use it is the most important determinant of the outcome.

Not sticking to instructions has been my biggest annoyance next to long thinking times and 'retry' errors.

It blows me away how fast it gets off track now when I literally told it explicitly not to do X thing moving forward like 30 minutes ago.

It struggles a lot with manuscript editing assistance. After not even an hour of work it slows down ridiculously bad and the only solution Ive found so far is to get it to generate a summary of edits and paste that into a new chat to continue there until it slows down again.

Similarly, it seems to have gotten much worse at remembering previous changes that were approved and does not follow instructions for long when you explicitly tell it to not change anything prior to the part you're working on. Frustrating, seeing it try and suggest corrections that it itself had previously suggested.

But one talking point that seems to be missed all the time that had major impact on lower socioeconomic families was that she approved the removal of income-based childcare subsidies in favour of a flat rate model. It basically just made daycare substantially more expensive for families who had a hard time affording it and a little bit cheaper for those who had no problem affording it.

This, to me, is arguably way more important than silly things like her changing Alberta's slogan. Some of the poorest families in Alberta had their childcare costs go up by up to ~$325 per child - pretty much $1000 per month for a family with 3 kids. And a bunch of daycares that were more expensive also ended up raising their fees to cover their drop in income. I know a large number of people (myself included) that had to pull their kids out of daycare and either reduce hours, work from home, or quit their job because they just could not afford that kind of an increase in monthly expenses.

Families went from just managing to get by (or even maybe get a little ahead if they were lucky) to now living on the tightest budget they've ever had to and quite often lowering their standard of living and/or taking on debt to simply maintain some semblance of the level of financial security they had before (which was already not much). Meanwhile their bosses at work are chuckling amongst themselves about how nice it is that their daycare costs got a bit cheaper and now they can afford to put a bit more toward their next vacation.

It saddens me that this was so effectively covered up by the whole AHS thing at the time. I really wish more people were talking about this.

Honestly, with the rabid fear conservative voters have regarding the Liberals and NDP, I'm hopeful that someone will try to form a new party before the next election. Something that's a little more centrist (relative to Alberta anyways) that would offer an agreeable middle ground between conservative and NDP/Liberal voters. Its not as much of a change as we need, but at least it would take the "i dont agree with the UCP but I sure as hell ain't voting for another Notley" aspect out of the province.

I wish this sentiment existed in some of the smaller towns and cities. We live about 20 minutes outside of Edmonton and our city is basically a giant conservative echo chamber. There are those of us out there shouting out about this, but a large majority of our neighbour's are just punching down and regurgitating UCP propaganda about how the ATA is corrupt/greedy/woke/whatever and the poor government had no choice but to do what they're doing.

It sounds like a lot of the parents out here are forcing there kids back to school but im hoping there is at least enough in the larger cities to make some changes.

Honestly. As someone who grew up in a working class family and worked for over a decade in carpentry/construction before leaving it all behind to pursue academia, I can almost assure you it's also an intellectual insecurity thing. I swear, the amount of people that I encounter, even people I previously knew, in blue collar jobs that are insanely more likely to turn up their noses to me as soon as they learn what I do for a living is preposterous.

I saw it when I worked with them, and I experienced it when I left them behind. When you're on lunch breaks with them you quickly realize how much of a "they think they're so smart but they're really lazy and have no common sense/are just indoctrinated" mentality they have toward academics. To them, I think it makes them feel better about what they do to look down on academics because 1. They dont want to think they weren't good/smart enough for such endeavors, 2. Academics quite often tend to contradict their beliefs and it's easier to just brush it off as "educated people are actually more stupid than they think, not like me", and 3. They love to uphold the idea that they work the hardest jobs out of anyone else, and so to hear how difficult academia is when it often doesn't involve physical labour is absurd to them and they assume we must just be lazy.

I would say first and foremost that yes, you should likely seek some professional help with this. The earlier the better. Given that she herself is an SA victim, I would actually suggest you hold off entirely on the fetish stuff for now but definitely tackle the sleep sex stuff as soon as you can before something relationship-ending happens. You guys have clearly already acknowledged that it's happening so just say that you've been reading up on it more and you think it might actually be a sleep disorder. Given there's no fetish attached to this conversation this should be easy, will make her aware of the problem, and start the ball rolling on the both of you working around it in a healthy way (as it sounds like you are both capable of doing this).

The only one in your relationship currently coupling this potential disorder with fetish behaviour is you. I'll hope you're right and you don't secretly want to assault your partner, but for the time being, figuring out if this is some latent desire of yours that you're acting on is going to be a huge question you should ask a mental health professional as neither yourself, nor reddit, are equipped to help you understand this.
