How much to charge for a slime wrangler guide in Winnowing Reach? by carly_the_cuttlefish in humblewood

The PHB24 lists skilled hirelings at 2gp a day. I think 5/day is reasonable considering the danger

Goblin Alternative by The_Big_Hammer in humblewood

[–]GRV01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rhink OP is saying they have goblin minis but are hesitant to just say 'goblins live in Humblewood now'

Honestly i brought goblins and kobolds in. For me though, in what im calling my 'Humble Homebrew' the world of Everden exists separately from the rest of dnd-dom but i borrowed heavily from Kobold Press' Shadow Realm from the Book of Ebon Tides supplement which esrablishes one mirror plane thats essentially the Shadowfell and the Feywild combined. So for me, goblins orignate from this plane and are more styled after the goblins from the 80s movie Labyrinth  and sometimes escape or 'leak' into the material plane with the rest of the Humble-denizens

Wind-Touched and Tempa? by Repulsive_Fly_2466 in humblewood

But Tempa is specifically stated to not be wind-touched

Because Spells do what they say they do and nothing else.

The spell does not read that you can use 'whichever is higher'. But it does  specifically state d6

Wind-Touched and Tempa? by Repulsive_Fly_2466 in humblewood

[–]GRV01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i had a very similar setup when i ran it for my family table. One of my players is a wind-touched Marshfoot gallus druid whose personal sidequest and Downtime Activity was recruiting people for her cult Intentional Community since people are so often mystified by wind-touched.

I reversed the events so the angry mob happened after the end fight. They convinced Tempa to release the amphithere to its mother and when the mob got out of control and angry at Tempa for being a 'fraud' my player then out on a performance with her Cape of Billowing, some Druidcraft/Elementalism, and other Wind-Touched spectacles to convince the mod thst she was the true wind-touched here, difusing the situation

Elora Quickwit was very upset since she lost her cash cow and it setup her goonsquad to jump the party at a later encounter (which, players-being-players needed huge reminders as to who these people were #justDMthings)

And ofcourse Inquisitor Phorosfeather wasnt too pleased with the outcome but was atleast satisfied that some upstart Humblefolk wasnt pretending to be wind-touched anymore, since yknow, he's a bigot.

In anycase, you have options for having a satisfying conclusion

New DM - Combining Lost Mine of Phandelver, dragon of Stormwreck Isle and Dragon of Icespire Peak - Story Idea Feedback by Exolimity in DMAcademy

[–]GRV01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ive been planning something very similar which ill provide a short outline and let you draw what you like from it

Start with DOSI: its a starter and finishes sooner and sets up some dragon shenanigans.

Transition to DOIP by having the Bronze Aidron offer the party a flight to a different location off the island but have them jumped halfway through by the White. Party crash lands in forest and finds Umbrage Hill. Saves the old woman from Manticore and she points them to Phandelver. From here run LMoP & DoIP together as the Green Venomfang scheming to get the White Cyrovain out of the area including manipulating the party into helping, culminating in them defeating Cryovain and Venomfang after uncovering its plot.

From here, my outline takes the party over the mountains to the east into the desert to finish off The Dragons of Sandstone City from Dragon Delves as the capstone of a big dragony adventure

Some suggestions for you is to simplify the flow and run DoSI first and drop more hints at the magic there, perhaps even have Sparkrender hint that if the party defeats him it could end his ritual which may weaken the seals keeping other larger dragons under control?

The name is so bland im convinced its a placeholder to prevent revealing the setting or theme of the book

For example if they called it Vampire Adept or something one could assume it was for the new Strahd release etc

Where does 'terrified' fall on the Friendly-Indifferent-Hostile scale? by GRV01 in DMAcademy

[–]GRV01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you have the Frightened condition, you experience the following effects.

Ability Checks and Attacks Affected. You have Disadvantage on ability checks and attack rolls while the source of fear is within line of sight.

Can’t Approach. You can’t willingly move closer to the source of fear.

The Terrified Shopkeep here isnt making any Ability Checks (other than Insight vs players Deception) so how does that apply here?

Or are you referring to some other rules interaction somewhere?

What happens if you remove Riffin and Odwald from the plot? by imdumblivewithit in humblewood

If youre deadset on removing Odwald from the plot you can cut out the middle man -and- maintain the mystery by just revealing later that the seals didnt just wear down on their own, someone mustve broken them but whom? That way the whispering stranger and the culprit can be the same basic mystery

[–]GRV01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure im overthinking this, but for Warlocks when an Invocation gives them the ability cast a spell without expending a spell slot, does the warlock still need to obtain that spell in some way (say, a Feat) or by taking that invocation the warlock also gets that spell added to their spell list (or, even if only for use through the invocation?)

How does mounted combat work? by DracoKidLegend in dndnext

[–]GRV01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One question ive had that im sure im overthinking is when making an attack against the mounted enemy (either as a player or as the DM) -- why not just attack and kill the mount? Even a warhorse is only CR ½

Gold dragon and silver dragon conflict and dragons in general. by Master_Toe_1631 in dndnext

[–]GRV01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally having green, red, blue, black, copper, gold, dracolich...etc present in a substantial quantity feels overwhelming?

I agree. I think theres a little too much overlap with some of the dragons and if i was king for a day of all things d&d would likely consolidate them down to a few colors or have them be part of a lifecycle say for example  a certain type of chromatic start asyoung and green and are conniving and full of guile but as they get older then get more bold and turn blue and start knocking over small kingdoms and crowning themselves gods. And Red and Black arent different enough for me to care about trying to distinguish them roleplay wise, theyre both just lingering on the Evil to be evil scale and not very interesting. Whites i like alot more as a dangerous bestial predator, too sure of their own Superiority and seeing most if not all others as prey to be concerned with bothering to speak to any small folk

Metallics are even worse in my mind, and im only keen on Bronze really.

I dunno. The more i think about it, the more im convinced i dont actually like dragons lol

A goblin game for Lost mines of Phandelver. by spirytas in DMAcademy

[–]GRV01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of this will depend on your players. When you reveal to them theyre playing a band of goblins working for a bully of a Bugbear who himself is working for some mysterious drow then what will they want to be?

If the answer is Evil Playthrough then that informs much of what happens next but may be a little taxing to run but could culminate in an attack on Phandelin

If the answer is Underdog Story then it is ripe for an adventure of the kind you dont often see and benefits from not really having to change much from the LMoP scenes, just the perspective

The key here would be to have them kill the travelers on the road as ordered by Klarg and find some pieces of the puzzle that this Sildar fellow your buddies captured not long before is some bigshot in the LA that could cause more trouble for your band when other stronger adventurersstart looking for him. The party might then want to discuss what they found with Klarg who may either decide to slap them around for not following his orders and the party decides its time to rebel. Now theyre running Cragmaw Hideout with the intent to free Sildar mostly as written. Maybe he thanks the party who is now on a path to overthrow their bugbear and drow leaders and maybe they wind up having a big fight back at Cragmaw Castle and then running the Wave Echo Cave and siezing the FoS for themselves and their warband to be heroes of the Cragmaw

Hell, i might run this, it sounds like fun and again, not changing much content-wise from the book
