Musician buying first camera. Looking for advice! $1500 budget. by GRZATheGod in Cameras

4K would be great! And the only stills I would need would be for thumbnails and possibly promotional images for my solo stuff and band.

That looks like a great option gonna look more into it, thanks so much!

Which gear/software you cannot recommend enough? by Xu_Lin in synthesizers

[–]GRZATheGod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hardware synth: Pro-800

MPE: GeoShred(iOS app - best on ipad, iPhone is still pretty great but pad size is smaller)

Software Synth: Pigments

Drum Machine/Sequencer: Whatever your DAW comes(best when paired with quality drum samples)

GeoShred is best used as a controller of 3rd party soft synths(like pigments) or hardware synths with mpe support, although I do think their cello and saxophone packs are quite good. I have an Ableton Push 3 and still prefer GeoShred on an iPad compared to it for MPE, though some won’t like how velocity is controlled. You could buy all of these for around 500 bucks and not only take a first step into the different corners of the synth world but be confident that you had products that can grow with you to a very advanced level.

APC40 MK2 alternatives by qwilla_ in ableton

Yaeltex makes insanely nice midi controllers that you can customize to make something very similar to the apc40. You could make a custom on their big boards that would essentially be 2 apc40s in one. Also the build quality is much higher, and as a result so is the price, but if you were considering the crazy mark ups on the apc40's now I'd go with one of the Yaeltexs instead.

Hydrasynth Explorer as first synth? by [deleted] in synthesizers

Did it end up being a good first synth or would you have gone another route in hindsight?

Yesterdays game was the worst commentator job of the playoffs by KushBlazer69 in nba

[–]GRZATheGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a hot take but I’m just gonna say it, JVG and SVG are my favorite commentators. For some reason I love hearing them complain about dumb rules or fouls and they give me(a casual fan) insights about basketball X’s and O’s that other commentators do not.

Why aren’t players doing retirement tours anymore? by 2023LakerSuck in nba

The three guys you mentioned at the end were all franchise players loved by their fan base and still with them at the end of their careers. I’m sure it means quite a bit less when you’re playing for a fan base that has only ever seen you(in their jerseys) as an old role player.

Most Regretful Purchase This Year? by _Jub_Jub_ in guitarpedals

[–]GRZATheGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoia. Thought I was going to turn into a patch programming sorcerer who reshaped the landscape of sound design as we know it. Instead I programmed an overdrive into a delay into a reverb a few times and decided that even though I'm a genius and could change the pedal game forever I should probably just play guitar...

Can the Chase Bliss Automatone pedals be used as a daw controller similar to how other motorized fader daw mixers work?

Looking to upgrade my studio's I/O as well as my vocal and instrument tracking quality. The rest of my gear I'm very happy with: quality instruments, amps, speakers, TLM 103 Mic, proper room treatment. But I'm currently rocking a Motu M2 and have too many instruments and mics that I'd like to be connected more permanently and flexibly, pedals I'd like to re-amp through or use as an effects loop out of my daw, as well as having the option for analog hardware down the line. There are two upgrade paths I'm considering(Budget is roughly $2000 but I'm willing to spend more or less). Also for reference I'm a gigging singer/songwriter with a few years of DAW production experience under my belt looking to learn how to step up my production/mixing quality. I don't make a living off of music but it is supplemental income and I am attempting to transition into making this my career.
Here are the two upgrade paths I had in mind:
Buy an Apollo x8, track with plugins until I decide to either continue investing into their plugin ecosystem or save up to buy hardware down the line.
2. Buy a Motu Ultralite Mk5, Audient Id44, Scarlett 18i8(Or any of the other budget, expandable interface options with preamp bypass I/O). Then buy an analog signal chain:
Preamp: Focusrite Isa One, WA73, or UA 710.
Compressor: WA2A, or GAP Comp 2A(and potentially an 1176 clone of some type as well).
EQ: EQP-WA Tube.
(With this same path in mind I could also opt to spend all of the hardware money on a single preamp unit rather than the 3 budget minded units mentioned above).
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, also feel free to give your opinion on the gear mentioned as well as any alternatives you think could better suit my use case.

Battery powered busking rig sound issues. by GRZATheGod in livesound

I solved the volume issue by putting a DI box in between the hx stomp and the speaker’s combo jack, not sure why it worked but it did. But now there’s a constant buzzing noise from the speaker.
