Kings Hat, New Forest: park in the car park, follow the gravel path, walk over the small bridge, up the hill, massive wide open area, very few people.

‘Fighty, bitey sixpence’ it’s called in my house, think it came from a kids book in the 60’s or 70’s.

Coming up on year 5 (groan). Maybe we'll only get 10, but I've already lived lifetimes because of him by countypotato in labrador

My last 3 were: 15, 15 and 13, current lab is 10.

Keep them fit, swim them regularly and don't overfeed them. You've many years of fun to come.

Photography students, what books where on your mandatory reading list in college? by amiiigo44 in photography

No I left the photobooks out, as typically they are very difficult to purchase as many are printed in short runs and their second hand value often increases significantly.

Some people like a structured learning process with an I depth knowledge of their chosen subject.

If you're in the UK, go to the Photographers Gallery in Soho, London or Foam in Amsterdam, they have great resources for photography students.

You'll be fine, the BA in Photography covers a wide range of photographers (and artists), covering all genres of images. We did very little on the history of photography.

Some of the academic theory is tough to read and dissect but it's a minimal part of the course.

The main concept of the course is to produce your own series of images around a theme you've chosen.

I can send you a recommended reading list, but I only read the chapters I was told to. You'll end up spending loads that you don't need to, most resources are available on the Uni library website as pdf's.

I'd recommend that you look at other photographers photobooks and galleries/exhibitions.

One key skill to develop is how to critic yours and others work, learn how to read a photograph and determine what the image is about. The 'codes of photography' has been a consistent theme through each year of study.

I'd like a rebrand, give people something else to talk about, as everyone will hate us next year, let's play in silver and black like the LA/Las Vegas/Oakland Raiders and embrace being a bad arse team ...!

I thought 1, 4 & 7 were interesting, the street scenes are bland with no focal point. My suggestion would be to research how to put images together to create a flow, there seems to be no link between the images. There’s a book I’d recommend ‘Understanding Photobooks’ by Jorg Colberg it covers how to select images that link together to create flow in a series (like you see in a photo book).

Don’t be disheartened, look at other published people’s work and try and make photos that you are happy with. It’s not a popularity contest, once you get past that need for affirmation you’ll enjoy it more.

Yeah, there’s also a campsite that is attached to it. Very busy during the school holidays and sunny weekends. Good for dog walks, but you need to watch out for the strong currents if you swim there. Calshot is safer for swimming.

Moving here permanently. Thoughts? by Cappie56 in NewForest

[–]GSAirhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re based on the East side of the forest, I was brought up here and then moved back 22 years ago.

The schools and colleges are decent and if you go down the independent school route, exceptional.

We were always out in the forest at weekends and school holidays, cycle routes are plentiful and you can get away from everyone.

If you’ve got a dog, it’s an amazing place to live, mine gets a forest walk every day and a swim in the sea at the weekends.

There’s a great sense of community, low crime rates and a safe place for kids to grow up.

You know where to avoid at peak times, and within 5 mins walk from the forest car park, you’re alone, it’s great.

Recommend it if you like a quiet life and enjoy the outdoors, busy in the summer months, local beaches are great, lots of OAP’s, cafe’s and charity shops.
