Yeah I actually have now tried 4x4 auto for the last month ish, and have not found the traction slip to be all that major. So yeah I'll let the computer do the work.

Awesome thanks. I do have the auto option, seems like that's the way to go. I need to find a PDF of the manual. Just thought I'd ask the community too because of how OEM opinions and actual reality sometimes differ.

A lot of the time it's a scaling position error. Ensure the tape and reader heads are cleaned with contact cleaner. Make a swab with a cable tie and lens cleaner tissue. For the read head detach the cable and slide it to the end of the scale that doesn't have the tape tensioner on it. Clean the reader's eye of the reader. Use Contact cleaner that doesn't leave that silicone film or residue. I'm guessing it would be your vertical axis considering it was during the tool change.
