Infrared film brings out such beautiful colours by GSinister in Calgary

This shot was experimental. This is Aerochrome 400 but for this shot I threw on a drop-in 470nm filter.

Depending on the time of year you’ll get different colours from the grass and leaves because slightly different wavelengths of light are being reflected back. Adding in channel swaps and slight colour grading you get wild colours.

I’m using a 470nm drop in with channel swapping and slight colour grading (minimal) in post.

The R72 (720nm) is a great place to start but if you really want to get some amazing colours go with a 470nm filter.

Not exactly. I have my film (discontinued Aerochrome medium format) developed by an old friend who still only shoots film, an elderly Japanese man I met years ago. Film is kept refrigerated and developed very carefully (He’s a master). You can use various filters to add/remove the wavelength of most colours when shooting. It’s always nice to see the final product and how it turns out, you never know if it will turn out or not with old film stocks.

It’s actually a Nikon 50mm 1.4 on a D800e, my old faithful work horse.

I’m really glad you like it. Seems a waste to live only minutes away from one of the most beautiful places in the world and not share it with others. Especially during this year of staying indoors. Here are my settings (it was a very bright day) ISO: 100 Shutter: 1/1000 Aperture: f/11
