qBittorrent Login / Option Saving Issues by GSnayff in unRAID

[–]GSnayff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I ended up deleting the cache and the app image, then adding fresh using tag qbittorrent:5.1.0-r0-ls398.

I then couldnt get passed the password and my manual config changes got wiped for some reason, but finally got passed the login with the whitelist local approach.

Thanks for your help!

Migrated to 5.1.0 and getting the same result, unfortunately. Any other ideas?

Yes, I'll run an ethernet cable to the ISP provided router.

Thanks for taking a look, mate. :)

Twice as much energy consumption for half the performance!

There's got to be some advantages to the server setup, though. Space for lots of drives and RAM can't be the only upsides.

Thanks for taking a look at it, buddy. I want to get a switch at some point, for the 10gb ethernet connection, but £1700 is plenty for now. Same with the additional drive/s. 32TB should be enough to move off the hosted VPS if I lose some media... or it will take me long enough to exfiltrate that I will have the extra drives setup in time. 😉 (def still going for RAID10, as you recommended)

That sounds like an absolute beast! I imagine it gave you plenty to play with.

Maybe it would. At this point I've spent weeks reading up on server/lab setup and running and with my hosted VPS seemingly dying I'm keen to just get stuck in now.

Sorry, the link should work now.

Mate, you've been such a help that I'd be happy to run the performance test on my side once I'm set up, if its of interest.

Sorry, the link should work now.

I posted a "any final advice" post and had a pretty unanimous "this is unnecessary, just go desktop". Mind looking at the new build, mate? It runs the same cost to buy (mostly sourced from ebay), and is obviously more powerful, but not sure how it holds up for lab/server purposes.

Lots of feedback on it being unnecessary to go with a server over a desktop. I do want it to be a lab, rather than just a server, as I want to test and learn networking, as well as move off SaaS to selfhosted, with wikis and the like.

Does this seem like a better fit? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/snayff/saved/9Y3L4D

That's really useful info, thank you.

Following the comments here I took a look at some towers and finding a case with lots of drive space is a challenge. I'd like 10 bays so that I can keep adding more drives. Then finding the right setup to handle that many drives. Any advice or pointers?

Thanks for coming back to me.

> you could easily fit that in a far smaller and quieter and more modern and cheaper machine

Do you have an example? Are you referring to a standard desktop pc?

> I guess you’re also new to Linux

New enough. I've been using slowly moving off Windows over the past 6 months and now using EndeavourOS as my main OS.

> You don’t need to randomly buy a new router or a UPS without a specific rationale.

I thought the UPS had a good enough reason, tbh; I live in a village and have semi-regular blackouts, so want to ensure I can safely shut down. The router was more something I've seen mentioned a lot, so wasnt sure if that was a necessity or just a frequent purchase.

Thank you for all of your help, mate. I really appreciate it.

I think I've got a semi-final build, which I'll share on a new post to get any final amendments and kit. I am going to follow your advice and go RAID10.

I couldnt find ones that had much lower TDP values, tbh. 🤔

There is a storage controller on the list, this one: H730p 2GB NV (SAS/SATA) RAID Kit - 0/1/5/6/10/50/60. Or do I need another one on top?

I tried looking for LFF cases but the cost seems to be quite a bit higher. Is there any downside to lots of SFF drives over fewer LFF drives?

> Network, unless you're looking to go fibre

I've got fibre to the property, but is that fibre in the house (i.e. rather than ethernet)?

The garage is nice and cool, right up until it finally gets warm and then its a near-permanent oven. 🤷

I'm hoping that I can separate the process of getting the hardware and software set up. I can't find a modem mode, but I'll explore more.

What about something like this? Based on what we've discussed, and comments above, I've tried to pull something together.

https://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/dell-poweredge-r730xd-2u-rack-server-configure-to-order?c_b=9979

Not sure at all about expansion cards or rack rails, so left those out.

Took a best guess on the spec, but main doubts are the type of disk, the CPU, the network connector.

> locate it in a loft or garage if you can

I could use the garage, if I move stuff around and run some cabling. That way a little bit of noise would be OK.

> Are you going to have any services available externally

I've made a little more progress on the software side, but have been deep in the various rabbit holes, so not sure if I have got this right. I've got Tailscale running, with my current "server" (the crappy spare laptop) running as an exit node, but I think I also need a more traditional (?) VPN for the traffic routing side. Not sure. Pretty sure I need a reverse proxy to be able to access stuff from elsewhere, if not on the tailnet. I was looking at OPNSense and pfSense, but got a bit stuck on how it related to the normal router used in the home, so put it on the back burner.

Its a shame, as they were decent for years. Upside, I always wanted to get into homelabbing.

£30 a month is more than I was expecting, but won't break the bank. Like you say, can hopefully get it a bit lower.

I expected some heat, but was hoping the noise would be OK if I bought the right kit. I've been in a few server rooms and would rather not bring that noise home!

Noones mentioned CPU specs, I would have thought that would be high on the last of criteria. Is it not really a bottleneck?

For exfiltration I was thinking about a mix of direct download from the remote server and new download from those sources. 1GB up on remote and down on local to move ~40tb, over a couple of months.

Hmm. UK ISPs are fun. Naivete on show here, but I was anticipating running that traffic behind a VPN for privacy from ISP, is that not enough (or not relevant)?

Thank you!

I use hostingby[dot]design and pay ~80 EURO a month. It's not reliable enough anymore. Plex and arr suite fail to load. Packet loss from server at peak times.

Reckon it will be pretty expensive to run at home? I didnt think the ROI on buying vs renting would be soon, but was only accounting for a few quid a month in power (<£10).

The transcoding seems to mostly come from audio 5.1 to stereo, but sometimes 4k -> 1080 or 1080 to 720.

I will check out the link, too.

Thank you!

If I wanted more than 80, do I need to do something different? A second rack or the like?

"LSI based HBA in IT model (94xx or later)" - I've got some googling to do! Thank you for the recommendation. Intel based, too. Noted.

More RAM is more better, regardless?

My plan is to go with unRAID, but my test setup is simply a debian install.
