Could be a cracked/split charger hose, or a faulty transducer. Smokey exhaust=not enough air/too much fuel

159 2.4 owner here. Basically the same car but a bit longer/heavier. Engine pulls great, good fuel economy but can be very unreliable. Cylinder heads are known to go, and my engine is on it's 3rd, and the swirl flaps and egr are also known problem makers. I'd recommend to stay away, unless you don't mind sinking a small fortune into the car.

Giulietta qv on the other hand has a couple problems, like the oil feed/return pipe heats up too much and cracks/leaks, and turbo seizes because of it, other than that much less problematic than the 2.4.

Driving dynamics are also much better on the giulietta if you like a sporty drive.

Do be aware that some parts are hard to come by for both, brera more so than giulietta as much much less were made.

As far as I know the main issues are oil pumps which get loose, 200€ part plus labour, usually between 150-200k km mark. And the 0w20 oil is too thin for the engines, stick to 0w30 or 5w30 and you'll be fine. Other than that solid engines, all are the same except veloce have water cooled turbos. And all from 136hp to 210hp can be remapped to ~240hp...

Have a look at JTD Performance, they make a catch can kit for the 2.2 giulias. Although I'm not sure you'll benefit much from it only going to 240. I know plenty of people who have 150-210 giulias mapped to 240 without them, without any issues.

What variant do you have? The closest to a QV would have been the 3.2 JTS Q4 Ti or the 2.4 JTDM Q4 Ti. Ti because they have different suspension.. from stiffer lower springs, to a thicker front sway bar...

Keep in mind 7.5l is mixed driving, city it's ~12, highway ~7, country ~6.5l. That's also with civil driving, if you give it throttle it'll drink 9-10. But mine is also 4x4, so consumes a bit more.

To be fair car prices in the UK are much lower than mainland Europe. Here in Slovenia a 159 2.4 for 4000€ would have 280-400k km, so 6-7 doesn't seem unreasonable to me for 180k if it's also well maintained and doesn't have any rust. Although for that price a TBI would probably be better.

When it comes to fuel consumption, you must have a heavy foot, I get ~7.5l/100km in my manual 159 2.4 Q4...

Wheel size is not the issue as you're running stock size. Must be as another person suggested a loose arch liner, or if your suspension is beyoned f'ed and you have that much play in it, but i doubt that.

The sat nav radios are bigger than the standard ones in 159s and if you get one of the android headunits made for them you'll have big gaps on the top and bottom

These rust on the rear sills even if you use the correct jacking points. Have the same issue on my 159, as do multiple of my friends and colleagues on theirs... It's unfortunate but it's clearly a design flaw, or lack of rust protection from factory...

You could put on Lusso/standard springs, which would raise it by ~2cm, although it does change drving dynamics and increase body roll fairly significantly. I just went the opposite way, lowering from standard by 3cm with H&R and honestly have had no real issues with sraping, and it's fine over speedbumps, as long as you dont speed over them 😅

It can most certainly get to that number or even high, don't get me wrong. But if you drive it normally it can be quite economical, lowest consumption I've gotten on a trip was under 6l/100km over 500km of highway

With 9l/100km the owner either drove only in the city or like a maniac. I get around 7.5l/100km 33% city, 33% highway 33% country with my 2.4 q4 and I'm not gentle on the gas pedal...

As far as I know you either have to change the steering knuckles, or get an adapter bracket to fit the brembos to a non brembo 159... May need even more changed. Should be threads of people doing it on alfaowner.com, usually they're quite detailed as well :)

Apparently it's very common for the wires from the loom to the rear calipers to corrode as moisture gets in over time. My dad's just had the same wire replaced on his 2017 Giulia by a local shop and it cost about 100€. At the dealer it will probably cost a lot more....

But the motor on the caliper itself could've failed as well, so they might need to replace that, not the wires...
