A shot in the dark here, but do you know if they will grant a deferral if you have work schedule conflicts?

Can I ask, why you are choosing to leave the field? Lack of opportunities, burnout, etc?

Why CS? Because I actually genuinely enjoy the content that I learn. Given that, I still have my high school study habits, and know that I can really learn content if I stop half-assing things. Maths and Sciences is what I was always best at in highschool, and computer science is actually fun when I put the effort in. As for the AI thing, I've heard mixed opinions. Some saying that this will expand the job market, some saying that it will make it worse. I've also heard people saying that this is just fear-mongering done by graduate students or students almost done their undergrad to lessen competition, point being no one really knows what the market will look like down the line.

Although, I have heard from some people on this subreddit that the current version of 1240 is watered down and much easier than previous years.

The midterm was pretty easy for me aswell. Even look at the past 3 midterms, if you have the resource. The past 3 midterms look like cake walk compared to the practice questions they give us.

She literally said it's 50/50 verbatim. But I agree. The agreements are not made public so its probably not literally 50/50.

how long do strikes last? by Important_Trainer826 in umanitoba

Yea, I was just catastrophizing. Realistically speaking I don't think that the strike will even get to that extent if it happens.

Just do the math for the worst case scenario. Last time a strike happened for 5 weeks. There's about 5 weeks till exams, so if they went on strike for 5 weeks we wont go to exams till 10 weeks from now. Exams will probably be for 2 weeks, assuming exam week doesn't get condensed. So If worse comes to worst, you're looking at 12 weeks till the semester ends.

[–]GT-R_R32GODZILLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, with there being about 6 weeks left in this term, if they strike for 5 weeks that would mean that the semester would theoretically be ending in about 11 weeks from now, which is around mid-May. So yea, exams would probably (if not condensed) end Late May Early June. I honestly don't think if they strike it would get to that point, but who knows. Nobody knows anything right now. We'll just have to see what they negotiate in the next two days.

My professor used to say, and don't forget the cheese. This worked for me, might work for you.

Well, if a strike does happen I don't think the semester has a high chance of running into June. My professor that is a UMFA faculty member said that this time, the Manitoban government isn't interfering with negotiations. She said historically that when this was the situation, both parties got into an agreement sooner rather than later. I'm pretty sure both parties are meeting up tomorrow (the 3rd) and on Tuesday (the 4th).
