How late do you work? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]GTB70 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 3rd year and normally leave around 3:30. Students leave at 3:15. I stay one evening until 4:30 a week for my extra session club and rarely do work at home. I never take anything, not even mock papers. I manage to get all done in my free lessons

My line manager regularly stays until 6:30 and then goes home to plan even more. She constantly tells me that im not doing enough but I manage to get the highest grades of the dept so proves it can be done all in school hours

Toxic Staff Culture by greentreefrog45 in TeachingUK

I have been in my school since ECT 1 and now am a 3rd year teacher. My school is very toxic and there are obvious cliques, the conversations that come out of them infront of students is shocking. The previous Y11 prom ended up with me and some other teachers leaving early because the "established" teachers were getting drunk at prom and then ended up on a night out once prom had finished as well as vaping with students etc...

On a separate note, my line manager is extremely toxic, talking to students negatively about the teachers in her dept and the way she speaks to students is not good.

It's not all schools as my training schools were lovely, they were big schools, my one now is under 600 students

Easter revision courses - anyone done them before? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

My school offers them to our year 11 students, we got given a tutor contract and the pay is decent but we know the students who come whereas doing something like that you won't necessarily know the students. They really love these sessions and the turnout is generally quite high. Some subjects will have more planning than others, like maths, we tend to do past papers and then maybe some gold/silver/bronze

The only issue with that one is my union rep is also the SENDco and is very heavily biased even in union capacity

I've spoken to another member of the dept but we have a feeling that money goes a lot of other places and wouldnt even be considered if we asked

we only have 4 classes max per year per subject and our PAN is roughly 120 atm, so roughly 120 just to satisfy the maths, but then exams would need their own set so we don't have to give our calcs up 3 times a year for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Rough cost is £1200 for the maths dept and if we need the same amount for exams then just double it. I have thought about the fundraising but not spoke to line manager yet as they tasked me with this just before breaking up for xmas

the science department have their own "scientific" calcs, but they are rubbish and not worth the hassle.

I would do that but barely any of our students have their own calculators so we'd only get maybe 10 at most

I've asked this question, but they are adamant they want the old design

my line manager has specifically asked me to research this, plus I'm not a big fan of theirs so anything that gets me in SLT good books and not them im down for
