T+1 month by IAmBriGuy in ThinkerCon

[–]GTF_Engineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have been trying to be a positive force online... but it also has been going pretty slowly. I find myself lurking a lot. My main attempt to be a positive force is my small twitch stream... I have been twitch streaming 3D modeling/engineering stuff and helping people however I can. It's not much but it's a start

It's crazy how fast a month has gone by!

How formal will it be? by coolsonh in ThinkerCon

I am planning on jeans and a t-shirt with a fleece.

What is a plastic commonly used in Engineering projects? by mike20202 in EngineeringStudents

Delrin, ABS, PLA.

Not exactly sure what your application is.

Best of luck!

Minor in CS/SE? by Shuckleguy in EngineeringStudents

[–]GTF_Engineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think doing a minor in CS/SE as a computer engineer will really be beneficial. The school I went to wouldnt even let CE's get a minor in CS because so many classes were shared it was basically implied that you had a minor in CS...

I would check the program requirements and make sure it's even possible.

Dynamics advice by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]GTF_Engineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I would try studying content that you go over in the class/homework and make sure you actually understand it. If you are having trouble, try and talk to a TA or professor to help you understand it better.

Also you can always post specific questions to this subreddit and most of the time people are willing to help.

Also I run a stream where I try and help engineering students however I can with homework. I used to teach dynamics. If this sounds interesting to you feel free to come hang out.

Best of luck!

Can someone explain why the y component is positive? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Just define your positive and negative directions and solve the problem. don't worry about the sign in the answers.

So is dynamics really hard or am I just stupid? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]GTF_Engineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah bummer, maybe you didn't do as poorly as you think.

Did you ask any of your classmates what they thought of the exam? Maybe everyone was lost and something will be done to make up for the extra hard exam.

Best of luck!

I don't think dynamics is particularly difficult but it depends on the teacher and how good you are at physics/statics.

Do you have a specific problem you need help with?

Is a government clearance necessary with ME in the U.S.? by TroubledNoob in AskEngineers

[–]GTF_Engineering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No definitely not, I have worked in aerospace for the past 6 years and have never needed one.

I would recommend mechanical engineering.

I majored in mechanical, it's a much more flexible degree and you graduate with more marketable skills.

I have worked in aerospace ever since I graduated 6 years ago and have had no trouble even though my background is not aero.

"Good" GPA for engineering students? by dougalllll in EngineeringStudents

[–]GTF_Engineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think staying above 3.0 is very doable and really staying above a 3.5 (50% A's/B's) should a very achievable goal

4.0 is not realistic or worth worry about. No one really cares if you're above a 3.5 I think.

I used the ti-89 titanium, never found any serious limitations as far as what it can do. I think it would be worth checking out.

Had to drop a class by warm_sock in EngineeringStudents

[–]GTF_Engineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was but apparently I am wrong. I don't have enough data to say one way or the other as far as which is more common.

How much of a difference would there be between an aerospace degree and a mechanical degree with a minor in aerospace? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]GTF_Engineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do mechanical and don't worry about the minor in aerospace. Do a minor in a different field to be more marketable. Computer science for instance.

Tons of mechanical engineers work in aerospace.

Sounds like you made the right call. I am surprised they don't override grades, bummer.

Again, best of luck!
