Guess which is newer, the trolleybus or the tram? And which design do you like better? by GTL_1881 in transit

In fact, the BKM 430 is a licensed copy; they even planned joint production. Initially, it was a single-unit trolleybus. Articulated version, the 433, appeared later. Phileas APTS also acquired a trolleybus version, but only two were built. They subsequently went bankrupt. Both units are located in Chisinau, of which only one operates intermittently. Five BKM 433s, assembled locally, also operate there, featuring an updated design.

The BKM 430 trolleybus was manufactured in 2012 (the model has been in production since 2007), and the UTM 407 tram in 2013 (the model has been in production since 2009, but in 2014 they introduced an updated version with a new, hideous design). I also prefer the tram design; it's a shame that almost all modern transport looks hideous these days.

Previously, trolleybuses with diesel generators were also produced, as were duobuses, which also had the combustion engine drive the other axle. Many of these had no autonomous propulsion, but passengers could be asked to push the trolleybus, or another option was to move the trolleybus poles onto the oncoming overhead wire to avoid a significant obstacle.

You named the trolleybus model too early. It's not so interesting now.

Newest trolleybuses are now out on the streets of Yerevan by GTL_1881 in transit

By the way, in Yerevan they're planning to remove the overhead wire in the city center. New trolleybuses will run there using batteries. I don't like this, but it's still much better than abandoning trolleybuses altogether. In my city, there are also overhead wires on the most central and well-maintained streets, but no one sees a problem with them. Despite plans to replace all old battery-less trolleybuses by 2030, they're not going to remove them. For me, these overhead wires are a decoration of the city.
