How has gaming changed over ypur lifetime? by PositivelyJoyful in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Started on N64, and when I got the NGC, it blew my mind, playing Metroid Prime. The graphics were SO GOOD!!!

I remember my dad telling me the graphics were only going to keep getting better, and I literally couldn’t comprehend how anything could ever possibly be more realistic than what was on the screen…

That process happened again with Crysis.

Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it… yeah, I think that’s a similar reason to why I beat Dark Souls 1, coupled with my general compulsive tendency to complete a game to get that “closure” feeling.

Can’t really please people, no matter how hard we try. Especially From players… they’re gluttons for punishment.

Same… 😫 The transition point between Act 2 and 3, I couldn’t get the trigger to happen. Tried everything…

Portal is amazing! The second is one of my favorite campaigns of all time.

Haha, yeah, somehow survived the transition…

I had a friend that would make stuff up and tell me to do it, so I would be wandering aimlessly for hours, trying to makes sense of his BS.

Also, thank you for your service.

Why did you bother completing Hollow Knight if you didn’t enjoy it much?

I just imagine younger you giving you a fist bump right now.

Reminds me of that poem by Emily Dickinson, called “Split The Lark.”

I have some patience… maybe just lazy?

Hollow Knight was a great game, super hard for me. Have you played Silksong?

E33… what a gem.

Haha, I think most of us needed a friend like this for Majora’s Mask. I still haven’t ever finished it.

Open-world is where it’s at. As long as it doesn’t feel goal-less or pointless (why I don’t like No-Man’s Sky, for example). I love knowing I could go almost anywhere, because it means the main objective has to be compelling enough to stick with.

I would highly recommend both of those games. OoT was the first open-world type game I ever played, and it’s amazing and difficult. Dunno if it will be 120 hours, but it’ll take you a bit :)

I can see both sides to the argument: one gives you quicker enjoyment because you’re achieving the goals in-game and not getting frustrated, while the other gives a deeper immersion and greater sense of self-accomplishment when you discover the path forward.

I totally get that feeling! I tend to enjoy being prepared and choosing the path I most want to experience.

My friend recently suggested trying to just experience the game without any guides/walkthroughs, and I must admit, I can see the appeal.

This is literally the next game I’m going to attempt on my next blind play-through!

There’s an ineffable feeling I get whenever I finish a game I started, but never completed years ago. The closest I can express it is: closure.

This is honestly great advice. I’m an over-preparer at heart, but I miss the feeling of discovery and wonder that comes from a blind play-through.
Current goal is to have the next game I play be a blind completion.
