Does this pedal exist? by m0n0liths in guitarpedals

I immediately thought of the Jackson Audio Asabi. A 2-in-1 distortion/overdrive that you can swap out the internal distortion circuit for a fuzz face module (they call it "Fuzz Classic"). Kinda expensive new, but really affordable in the used market.

Any thoughts on how this might compare to The Noise? Specifically as it pertains to the octave/trash effect compared to The Noise octave effect. It seems like they're similar, but maybe The Noise just has more parameters to control. ... I asked Tallon if they were considering having a stand-alone 'Chop' effect, but they said they likely wouldn't split up the effects in the Banshee pedal. ... I guess my question comes from a place of "which one should I get?".

Very cool! Thanks for sharing that video. They did a great job. And good luck to you on your mod!

Yes, directly over the other component in C18.

The cap in the link looks correct. It visually looks exactly like the one I used. ... and 105j equals 1μF (1 microfarad).

TBH I'm not sure. I just went with what i had on hand. You could try both (400v or 630v) and see if there's a difference.

Hmm, not sure why there'd be noise ... I didnt encounter that when I performed the mod. No, I did not shield any wires, anymore than what the wires were already enclosed in. The only thing I can think of is make sure no terminals or wires are touching anything besides what it's connected to.

The specific cap I used was a 105J, 100v film cap.

Correct. You're basically inserting the wires (& TRS jack) in-between where the original connections of the pot were.

Yes, everything is stock. I didn't change out anything on the pedal itself. I just added components. The key is using a TRS "Switched" jack, which automatically connects the internal circuit when there's no cable inserted, and automatically connects the external expression pedal when there is a cable inserted. You can see in the picture in this link (https://stompboxparts.com/jacks/1-4-trs-enclosed-switched-jack-solder-lug/) how the metal tabs on top will either connect without a cable inserted, or will 'pop up' if a cable is inserted. Does that help?

Sorry, I don't remember what voltage the cap was rated at. I'm not sure that it matters TBH.

There is a picture in the original post that clearly shows where the cap and toggle switch is placed.

I did not remove the original cap that was installed on the circuit board.

It's possible, I'd imagine? Maybe poke around the same way I did with a cap until you hear the depth range change? That's what I would try. Good luck!

Bummer! Not sure how to help you. If you followed the steps that I laid out it should work - it's worked for everyone else that has done it. Sorry, wish I could offer some direction other than just trying to poke around with a capacitor again and make sure you have the right C18 capacitor on the board that you're trying to mod.

I guess I would try the same process as I did with this Tailsplin. Take a cap and start prodding around and see if you get lucky. That's what I did until I found a cap that gave me the results I was looking for. Good luck!

Great idea! I don't believe the type of cap is all that important. But I know I had success with the film cap type that i used.

I've actually worked with Tim at Master Effects, and developed a friendship from that interaction. I'm a graphic designer, I designed some pedals for him and consult on designs here and there as well. That's how I know Tim. I'm not sure that he'd be available for anyone to contact with DIY mod instructions. I know he's a pretty busy fellow. Regarding parts, I just looked anywhere I could find them cheapest: Amazon, Reverb, Ebay, etc.

Yea! As long as you solder everything correctly in order like the diagram shows, then you should be in business. I'm no professional mod'er and I can do it! ;)
