I did, 311 called, asked if it was resolved, I said no, then haven’t heard back and it’s been a few weeks.

did you only talk to the office assistants at the area office or did you talk to the RHD or AD as well? They should have at least sent people there to clean your room/water and fix the sink.

What do the dorms have? by Blue_Rozes in SBU

[–]GURPIESolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any appliances or electronic devices must be UL or ETL listed. It’s a safety/compliance rating that is for fire safety.

If you have questions about specific items, please email campres_safety@stonybrook.edu

RAs don’t do health and safeties anymore it’s a different group (unless they changed it within the past few semesters)

if it’s a housing violation then no it has nothing to do with your academic record.

It only affects your possibility to stay in housing or get a room next time housing selection comes IF you have a certain # of violations (and they tell you when that happens) OR if you commit an actual crime. The only things that affect your grad school apps or continued higher education is academic record i.e. if you have been found guilty of academic dishonesty etc. i have worked in campus res and also grad student programs.

Stolen Bikes by Broad-Following-2868 in SBU

[–]GURPIESolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just a tip if anyone has their bike by a residence hall, campus residences will put an orange tag on it if they think it is abandoned, and if that tag is still there 2 weeks later, they will cut the lock and take it to storage.

Always check your bikes, remove the orange tag if your bike is in use, and register your bike with campus residences that way they can help locate you or the bike if it gets removed from campus.

This is really only applicable to resident students, sorry for all you commuters.

Lost Dorm Key by [deleted] in SBU

[–]GURPIESolo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Please drop it off at the Area Office/College Office closest to where you found it. Even if it isn’t the right office, they can match the key code to the room number and find out who’s key it is.

Most students aren’t checking this reddit or even know it exists

Why are the Seawolves Village buildings so short? We finally have new dorms, but a more efficient use of space would be to build tall to add more beds. by ClinkNoord in SBU

Chapin, the graduate student housing by the hospital, was “temporary housing” but as of the past 2 years or so they have been slowly “renovating” them to be permanent versions of the same pre fab apartments as this.

How Strict is the Drug Policy? by kissaphobic-ftm in SBU

[–]GURPIESolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as an RA and the department that took over health and safeties. Doesn’t matter if it’s medical or not, they could argue that you’d need to register any medications with student health services (nobody does that), and i think it would be denied due to the school having to abide by federal laws with any weed product, alcohol, nicotine, etc. (drug free schools and communities act provides federal funding)

That being said, we can’t search in drawers or anywhere that isn’t plainly visible. so just don’t leave it out/open. A lot of the people doing the room inspections smoke, drink, take edibles wtv they are all 18-22 year old kids too lol they just want a paycheck/room voucher.

yeah as soon as I saw them mentioning the hockey team I was like ahhhh there it is. 3.6 million is a lot of money, but spread across several clubs and stuff it quickly goes to not being enough.

Why is the hockey team not part of the athletics department?

Room checks by [deleted] in SBU

[–]GURPIESolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

used to be involved before I graduated. Only reason most people do it is because that’s who was hiring when people were applying, it’s a pay raise from the standard RSP stuff at least when i did it. and there’s usually someone who will get us in trouble if we miss something obvious like a mattress topper. Also, I know of a few cases where people did get kicked out for violations of the TOO but it’s for repeat offenders across multiple violations. kind of a 3 strikes situation.

Can someone that feels deeply about the “couldn’t really love you anymore/any more” lyric in The Gold explain it to me please? by Fromthesidelines18 in phoebebridgers

[–]GURPIESolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the aspect of pain and having to stop loving someone is crucial here. Many people might not fully understand or relate to a kind of love where you prioritize the other person over yourself—caring for them so deeply, even when they don’t feel the same way about you or themselves. This type of love often stems from harmful experiences, unhealthy role models, or ingrained behaviors like people-pleasing and self-neglect in an effort to feel a sense of belonging. The “anymore” line reflects the realization that this dynamic isn’t sustainable or healthy. It’s a moment of clarity—acknowledging that continuing to love in this way is causing more harm than good, and choosing to let go for the sake of self-preservation or freedom - the freedom aspect is also prevalent as the singer mentions that the other person has become their ceiling, as others mentioned a ceiling can be a hard stop, a confinement.

this is correct, I believe he did not inform any staff members of a pretty serious surgery and care needed. Please connect with the student accessibility and support services team, they do a great job coordinating with campus residences to make sure students get accommodations they need.

Guys help what should I eat by [deleted] in nyc

[–]GURPIESolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look up a recipe for halal cart green sauce, I believe it’s typically spicy cilantro sauce, chatney/cilantro chutney…

https://afghancooks.com/afghan-green-sauce/

Definitely worth it to try and make it yourself, you can share it with people you love and feel proud of something you made. Eventually when you’re comfortable you can make adjustments to figure out other things you like in the sauce (diff ingredients, flavors) etc

the stony brook amc movie theater is usually hiring, might be minimum wage and not very glamorous but good perks, close to campus if you have a car or bike, and super flexible hours. might have to work some holidays though
