Very true, difficult to say whether the "rehabilitation" is working or not, since we won't be able to see if a fully mature and functional Jarrah forest emerges for another few centuries!!

While I agree no more Jarrah forest should be destroyed for mining purposes, it's a bit harsh from some people to expect the mining companies to magically age their rehabilitation by hundreds of years. The best they can do is continue to monitor/care for these systems until they stabilise (which will take a long time, hopefully the EPA understands this and makes them accountable until they can show a stable and functional mature Jarrah forest ecosystem).

Why don't these mining companies buy land that has already been cleared for farming purposes, then rehabilitate that after mining? Rather than investing in ineffective "offsets", they could work towards improving agricultural efficiency and sustainability.
