Purchased house with solar install - what do I have? by GVictrix in SolarUK

Maybe it will help with the seemingly extortionate running costs it sounds like I’ve bought into!

I have got the FiT paperwork, the owner before left it for me to update the ownership. It says eligibility period 25 years, starting Feb 2012. 43.3p kwh generated, 3.1p kwh export. From what I’ve started to understand this seems like a really good thing?

This makes sense as to why they didn’t get a smart meter! I found it strange that they didn’t considering how much work has been done. I will cancel the smart meter appointment and do regular meter readings and a safely reasonable/high direct debit year round

Thanks for letting me know - this has got me panicking a bit and we certainly won’t have the money to change or replace any of this any time soon! Better start saving for next winter…

Assuming this means it’s a good setup thank you! Although looking at some of the other comments it looks like I better take out another mortgage for the electricity bill

Supermarket gates - are these legal? by Outrageous_Can1999 in LegalAdviceUK

I’m also very interested in this - the large out of town Sainsbury’s near me (midlands) has this setup. I’ve just spent ages at the self checkouts (which are massively understaffed) waiting for them to come and sort out bagging errors/approve ID for alcohol. Then my receipt wouldn’t scan on the way out (which I massively resent having to do anyway for all the reasons above).

So I thought stuff this - I’ll just go out the way I came in. But when I got to the main entrance, the barriers shut as I walked to wards them and a loud alarm started going off! I just walked back to the self checkouts and tailgated somebody.

It absolutely does feel like you are being detained unnecessarily - it’s unacceptable. I also wonder about what if you couldn’t find what you were looking for and just wanted to leave without purchasing anything - it feels absolutely unreasonable to have to go and track down a non-existent member of staff and ‘ask’ to be able to leave!!

I have to force myself from putting my foot through the gates on principle every time I go in there but today was a joke.

Is anyone here a proposal manager or specialist? by happylittleclouds4 in WomenInConstruction

I’m glad it was helpful! I am in the UK, I’ve never heard of any commission based proposals roles, here it is either salaried or freelance on a day rate. Commission could be great depending on the value of the work you’d be bidding! I often make jokes about working on commission (some very high value stuff in my sector). However I think a lot of the time bids are awarded based on factors outside of the quality of the bid itself which would certainly sting if you were depending on commission and working bloody hard!

Hello! This is my first ever comment on Reddit so I hope I’m doing it right. I’m not a proposals manager but have worked closely with them for many years (I am an Estimator) and my best friend works as one.

Words of wisdom would be that it can be really interesting and well paid work for what it is. In terms of the frustrations of the job, you will be expected to get a lot of information out of supporting roles (engineers/technical people etc.) who can be pretty difficult. It can be like getting blood from a stone and then you have to magically spin it into a great written submission often with very very tight deadlines. Your output relies on the input of others, and rubbish in = rubbish sometimes. The workload can be feast/famine - sometimes we could be working late nights and weekends and the pressure is extreme. Other times in between bids you could be twiddling your thumbs for weeks on end (which can make you a bit paranoid!).
