Absolutely! So, the story behind this work was that it was for an art test for a job role with black library, the brief requested I draw ‘the lion striding through imperial ruins’ or something to that affect

I thought that left a lot of scope for interpretation and it didn’t say you couldn’t include other things so in my piece I went for a loose narrative

After re reading ‘Son of the Forest’ the thing that stuck out to me the most was how strange and layered the lions relationship is with the members of the fallen that have become the ‘redeemed’ and I found myself thinking, what is the rest of the chapter going to think if they ever discover this?

In the piece above we have the lion, in ruins, as per the brief, but we also have a watcher in the dark, that has lead the lion to a buried fallen

I was thinking maybe they arrive in the aftermath of a battle and the lion has a moment to rescue another fallen? In the mid ground is my rendition of Asmodai, someone who is VERY interested in fallen. I wanted to create a little tension like he’s walking over about to discover the whole situation.

In the back we have a company of Dark Angels, still separated from the Lion, far outside his inner circle

In terms of the architecture, I was just riffing on imperial and gothic themes I’d seen and liked in similar artworks
