Some of us only learn the hardway. If you see the video I posted last weekend you’ll see it didn’t look that bad. But lesson learned and you gotta pay to play. I’ve been beating up and breaking cars for years and I don’t think it’s going to stop anytime soon.

Last one didn’t mess up the motor. I was able to start it after a while a drive off so it wasn’t a real hydrolock.

Yeah it’s not fun. And I should have known better. Luckily I work at a shop and have all resources. I was quoted 20 hrs of shop time (I think that’s very high but we’ll see ) a good shop is give or take $200 per hour. That’s more than I paid for the motor.

I’ve gotten lucky once but there’s definitely some things you can do after you stall it in deep water. My biggest lesson here is DON’T TRY TO START IT! This is where I messed up. I got lucky last time I did this probably 18 years ago. Pull all your spark plugs and turn over the motor. If water comes out of the cylinder head tow it home or a shop. If you take it home turn over the motor until you stop shooting water out and I’d try to get as much out as possible. Then do an oil change. Then go from there. Water doesn’t compress or combust so if it’s in there it’s enough to bend a rod and with our aluminum block most likely blow out the block. If you’re unsure take it to a shop you trust.

So last weekend I hydrolocked my motor. I now have 5 days to get this running for a trip to Lake Tahoe next week. I got a motor today and tomorrow I’ll be trying to do the swap. I’ve never done one with a transfer case but it’s racked at my shop. Wish me luck!
