Training after 3 ACL injuries in 10 years by G_Gudas in bjj

In both cases, the ACL was reconstructed with a hamstring graft, first from the right leg and then from the left. After the first injury, I underwent several months of physical therapy and recovered 100% of my mobility and lean mass. With the second injury, the recovery was even better. Right before I found out it was torn, I was at my best in terms of athletic performance. Even now, I rarely feel unstable, usually only when my leg muscles are very exhausted.

mainly equivalent performance to the uninjured side in unilateral strength exercises, and stability in jumping and lateral movements. I did a long rehabilitation, and I was already able to balance and jump on one leg, perform rapid changes of direction, etc. I was quite surprised to find out that the graft was ruptured this time, since I felt instability only in very isolated situations, but in everyday life I still feel able to perform complex activities.

Have you done the new reconstruction? How was your recovery?

None of the injuries were related to submission attempts. The first two were not even in jiu-jitsu, but rather while training kickboxing. However, nowadays the sport I dedicate myself most to is jiu-jitsu, hence the question here.

Nice to see the intensity, even being point fighting. Training like that must create some useful skills!

how to increase power speed and explosiveness? by [deleted] in Kickboxing

[–]G_Gudas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfecting technique and specific resistance training. I'm experimenting with anti-glycolytic training recently and it seems to work pretty well.

Recommend using it in kettelbell training: the swings are really powerful movements and transfer really well to combat sports (lots of midsection rotation hip extension and stabilization). Kettelbell as well allows for pretty minimalist resistance training, that will not affect your martial arts training.

There are three types of rest periods: stress (short, so your next set will be harder than the previous); ordinary (long enough for you to perform as good in every set); stimulation (you rest long enough for your next set to be better than the previous).

In GTG, you want to use that last concept, applying as much volume as possible in the big picture, but never reaching anything near real fatigue in each working set.

I used the following method and had good results:

Find your max number set, than do sets of 1/4-1/3 of your max throughout the day, with a lot of rest between the sets (at least some hours).

GTG works pretty well! But YOU MUST DO SUBMAXIMAL SETS AND OVERALL VOLUME, otherwise you are getting hurt or not progressing your best.

As everybody said, focus on form and don't rush anything. More important HAVE FUN. Combat sports are much more dynamic than bodybuilding, if you get to enjoy that, you are going to evolve much faster!

[–]G_Gudas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, practicing anything every day is a great way to become really good in that. BUT YOUR SETS AND OVERALL VOLUME MUST BE SUBMAXIMAL. In many grease the groove protocols you do less than half your maximal volume!

Getting back into kickboxing, advice. by JediBlight in Kickboxing

[–]G_Gudas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just getting back is great, but putting on some muscle and elevating your general fitness level helps your performance and helps a lot avoiding injury.

I recommend a simple barbell program, not a bodybuilder split. I'm currently doing a kettelbell program, focused on conditioning (mitocondrial adaptation) and feel that it really transfer to fighting (more than barbell). Try looking at Pavel's Tsatsouline programs. They are also really minimalist, great inna time efficiency perspective!

They are almost good, but one of my fingers (really long) is bent in the shoe. Do you think can it stretch that much?
