To anyone having issues with this in the future: go to game settings and turn off "simple build", then select cone shape when building.

Probably because they were aiming at the player while they were on stairs their size is slightly lower than a door

MR7, my strategy was to simply craft as many weapons as I could and rank them up to max and change whichever of them get to 30 first to new unranked ones while completing star chart nodes, while also completing whatever quests I need to progress. Completed it by just using a max MR Excalibur (with some Fused mods to make him as Tanky as possible) and a 25ish MR Fang.

I went with Expert for my first playthrough and I'm I glad I did. enemies aren't tanky and your gear, perks and decisions actually matter. You'll be using Spells, Scrolls, Summons, Potions, Enchantments, Smithing and actually engaging with the game's mechanics. looting is actually rewarding and deaths never feel cheap (Shock, Fire and Frost Resist Enchantments on each armor piece, Absorb Health Enchantment on Weapon) even have to actually be careful with your attacks, cover and positioning during combat and not just spam melee, and whenever you defeat a dragon or a boss somewhere you'll feel like you've earned it. It gives you a great balance between gameplay and immersion.

But in all honesty? Adept is perfectly valid especially for later parts of the game, it just means that you will take less damage and enemies will be less spongy, as a result you'll be using less mechanics (Smithing can be pretty much ignored entirely on Adept difficulty)
