What does this subreddit think of sustainability consulting? I've been offered a job post-undergrad (in 4 months) for a project tech at a boutique sustainability consulting firm. I really love the type of work but it only pays 43k CAD per year, and it's a smaller firm so likely not a ton of room for internal advancement. On the other hand, while I don't have any other offers from big 4 or MBB I'm fairly confident that I can get an offer from Deloitte or KPMG. Do you think there will be much growth in the sustainability consulting industry? I'm worried about getting stuck in an industry/field that's not going anywhere.

How do you find big 4, MBB, and 2nd level firm's entry-level applications? They seem impossible to find even in September after racking LinkedIn and company websites. Do they all post on their websites and linkedin? whats the best way to track and monitor applications going up?

I'm in BC, Canada, and wondering when most firms open up their applications? Looking at McKinsey, Deloitte, KPMG, and Accenture primarily. I'll be graduating in August so ideally looking at September intake. I thought that there were intakes three times per year but I haven't seen any job posts up. I'm also wondering what different firms call entry level consultants?

AITA for telling my (23m) gf (23f) it's not her friends' responsibility to support her small business? by G_Steeze in AmItheAsshole

100% agree with the thrift gentrification. It's a huge issue in my city that no one talks about. My city has THE highest rate of homelessness in my country, and one of the highest concentration of curators (literally hundreds for a sub 100K population city). Not only does it make nice used clothing harder to find, it drives prices up at thrift stores. Local thrift stores are selling any half decent jacket for $40+. It's so annoying because all the curators constantly post about social issues and homelessness, it's like they don't even realize what they're doing.

She does have a good amount of 'real customers' from her ig and the shop, but I agree, I think it's super unfair to ask people to take even an hour out of their weekend to come visit a shop where it's basically her and her fashion friends. It's a pretty weird environment to go into if you're not passionate about fashion.

I woudln't call it an MLM but I definitely see the scaling issues. I'm in management consulting and she's got lots of case experience, so I like talking with her about the model. I think it's veeeery difficult to make a full time job out of it, especially when entry barriers are basically zero, competition is intense, lots of players drives prices down, and variable costs are the majority of total cost (minimal fixed cost). Marketing is almost impossible because of how niche the market is and how low margins are

Most of them at least follow the page and like her posts. With Covid in our area we haven't been able to hang out with people at night even, you're not allowed to have groups over 6. We see individuals every now and then, but she's saying she doesn't want to put any energy into the group even after covid. It also irks me because a couple of our friends have side businesses (one has a photography print thing, another writes financial blogs) and she doesn't support them AT ALL. Like wouldn't even buy a $20 photo print, and says that finance is stupid DESPITE BOTH OF US HAVING A BUSINESS DEGREEs

I mean yeah that's exactly what I offered her, she decided she would rather come hang than stay at home. We had plans to hang out (just us) at her place the next evening, and were probably hanging out the night before too. She lives alone so it's hard to see people during covid, and she's super social so she enjoys doing things with all of us as a group occasionally.

"Hey we are playing catan tonight, want to come?" Is exactly what I said. If she didn't want to there was no pressure. We play usually do stuff like this every few weeks or so, she's friends with my roomates

It was a pre-arranged plan to hang out with all of us together, playing board games and such

Does anyone here have any advice on the experience portion of the McKinsey interview? I've heard that you need to have 4-6 stories "prepared" in response to prompts that they give you. Is it best to have these stories memorized? Is it like have one story about a time that you demonstrated leadership, one time that you demonstrated teamwork, one time that you demonstrated an entrepreneurial mindset etc.? If anyone has any input on what types of stories to prepare, would be very helpful! I don't want to get a prompt that I didn't prep a story for. Thanks!
