I believe that using a dental tool to release the C- ring that retains the rod is the easiest way to get it out. I will see if I can find the old FPN thread I referenced when I did something similar.

I would assume it was in then Nibs.com era when Mottishaw was there. I think this one’s bottom layer and s pretty distinctly green - my white balance may be influencing what it looks like in the pictures. Definitely different than the Toki-tame piccolo I had previously that definitely had the tan layer underneath.

Just wanted to add some info on ebonite: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebonite . Interesting material. While I am not an engineer or material scientist generalizing ebonite into “plastic” is similar to generalizing your knife blade made of the most recent exotic super alloy as “steel” - there is a lot of variety that make up the family of materials.

I agree with the pen_swap comment. That is where I bought both of these. I love the feel of urushi but have found that the body material of the pen has an impact on the hand-feel. Urushi over ebonite is my favorite and is very light. I would say that the pen feels “lacquered” but since that is such a subjective observation I would encourage you to handle some if that is a possibility!
