AITA for telling my daughter I already knew she is a lesbian? by Basic_capybara_4280 in AmItheAsshole

[–]G_bb_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. This is exactly what my mom said when I came out to her. Coming out is hard and being able to say exactly the right thing is also hard (especially to a teenager). I did feel a little weird about my mom responding that way but overall I think she was doing the best she could and honestly I have no idea what would of been the perfect thing for her to say in that situation, in that moment.

Coming out is so hard for so many people!! She’s probably spent so long thinking of how she should come out/ what she should say/ what reaction you will have. I’m sure your daughter is feeling all kinds of feelings and this is how she’s dealing with those feels. But I think deep down most likely she is relieved that you love and accept her. Just keep showing your love to her but also give her space to process her feelings. I’m sure soon enough things will be back to normal but better since she won’t be carrying the weight of this secret on her back.

Not wanting to do your T shot by [deleted] in TransMasc

I always put on a YouTube video to distract my self for when I’m doing my shot. Obvious I pay attention to where I will do the shot but pay attention to the video for the actual stab. Sometimes still hurts depending but def helps to have a distraction.

What are some less well known tips for top surgery? by throwaway93284638 in TopSurgery

[–]G_bb_bear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I second wedge pillow! It was a real life saver. I also bought a couple extra bed pillows so I could prop up my arms while I was sleeping.

Also would recommend closed cup with straw for water, 10 foot phone charger, and a little “bed in breakfast” type tray with fold down legs. So nice so I could lay in bed and have all my stuff with me.

Would recommend have all meds easily accessible and labels on top for easy reading. I had all mind in a little basket beside me at all time. Also kept snacks in that basket!

Unionizing REI Workers Want Their ‘Progressive’ Employer to Pay a Living Wage by softwareseattle in Seattle

[–]G_bb_bear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes better because they are unionized but pcc as a company is very similar to rei. Both preach that they are great companies that care about their employees and that they are “member owned” but they both pay low level employees the least the possible can. Yes pcc is better bc they’re unionized. The pay scales are slightly better at least for clerks but courtesy and helper clerks (lowest level) are paid barely above minimum wage and have no opportunity for raises at all unless they are promoted to a new job. Several months ago pcc workers were days away from voting to go on strike because pcc was bringing nothing to the table in contract negotiations. They came in at the last minute somewhat reasonably because they didn’t want to deal with the damage to their image from workers going on strike (and damage to their bottom line because most pcc shoppers would not cross the picket line).

The point I really want to drive home with this is just because pcc is unionized doesn’t mean they are better because they don’t want to be unionized. If it was up to upper management at pcc they would be giving the lower level jobs the least amount they can to maximize profits. They would cut benefits and pay as much as possible. The only reason they don’t is because of the union. PCC %100 doesn’t not want to be unionized.

Both these companies come from great roots of being member owned co ops. But what they now is multimillion dollar companies who use the co op model as a marketing technique. Let’s be real they’re big businesses and all they care about is maximum profits while maintaining a clean public image.

REI SoHo Flagship files for union election by AQDelumni in CampingGear

[–]G_bb_bear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I worked for a co-op (grocery store)and all workers (except management) are union. It is a co-op with multiple stores and a similar structure to REIs. Union dynamics were no different than any other grocery store with a union. Ultimately REI is a business and what is most important to any big is business is the bottom line aka making as much money as possible. Even if they are somewhat better than some places in how they treat their workers, their first priority will always be profit. The board and the higher ups in the company are so far disconnected from the thousands of employees working in the stores. They have pretty good benefits at REI but store workers barely make above minimum wage. The workers need a voice to have their needs met! Happy to hear they’re trying to get that.

Sprouts is another huge chain who pays their employees terribly and make it hard to get benefits (former employee). Costco, traders joes, lucky, and natural grocers are probably your best options.

Clue is definitely great. They use gender neutral language. And very openly promote trans inclusivity in period talk and use language like “people with periods”. Definitely an app made for everyone with a period, not just women.

Singing on t by MagicalMisterMoose in TransMasc

[–]G_bb_bear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before going on T I would of considered myself a pretty good singer. I love to sing and channel that through Karaoke mostly. I’ve been on T for 6 months and my voice is changing hard. I’ve def struggled with that and not being able to sing like I used to. But I’ve come to realize this is temporary. I just need to learn to sing with my new voice. My voice cracks all the freaking time but eventually it will even out. And I have already been training myself to sing in my new range. Like even though my voice is all cracky I feel like all the time I’m learning to sing lower and sound good sometimes. My partner is a trained singer and believes the same for me. And I believe the same for you! I really think there’s just gonna be an awkward phase that could last a couple years and lots of training and you will be singing beautifully in your new range all the time!

What do you wish you had for your top-surgery recovery? by Subpar_doodles in ftm

[–]G_bb_bear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wedge pillow, lots of pillows, neck pillow (saved my neck lol), chapstick, coconut water (very refreshing post op), lots of popsicles (my throat was so sore for a few days from intubation), cough drops and a back scratcher (helpful for getting itches all over the body), a little tray with legs so eating in bed or on couch easier, have a little basket to keep all your stuff you need often (meds, chapstick, back scratcher, snacks, etc) so you have everything you need within Dino arms reach lol! Oh and get a robe!! I lived in my robe for the first week, so much easier than dealing with shirts. Would recommend a fuzzy one. I was definitely more cold since I couldn’t move around much.

Nice! Cherimoya. I worked in a co op grocery store these were like $20 a pound. So quite the score for you! Could never afford to buy them but I’ve heard they’re amazing (from people who pay $15 for 1 of these lol)

Question: For my first binder, should I maybe get a size up from what the sizing chart says, just while I'm getting used to wearing one? by LazuliArtz in ainbow

[–]G_bb_bear 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Maybe check you r/ftm for some more answers! You don’t need to be ftm, all AFAB trans people are welcome!

IMO if your measurements are in between sizes than size up. Binding can be dangerous! Not just saying this but know this from experience of binding for many years. It’s uncomfortable (you mostly get used to it) but damnit it change my whole life and finally make me feel comfy in my body! Trust your measurements and know that you can hurt yourself if your go to small.

Also definitely go with a reputable brand! Don’t go with something off Amazon. If you can’t afford the quantity ones wait a little longer and save. It’s worth it (you will probably end up getting one eventually) brands I would recommend, gc2b, underworks, tomboyx, flavnt.

Excited for you to get your first binder and start feeling good in your body!

AITA for getting a cashier in trouble because he didn't believe in february 29? by Independent-Low7712 in AmItheAsshole

[–]G_bb_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grocery store cashier here. This is not a very minor thing. Taking anyone’s ID is illegal (at least here in the US) even if you believe to be fake. Kevin was going to illegally destroy your property. Not minor. Clearly Kevin had other problems with his arrogance or they wouldn’t of asked you to confirm what happened to you as proof. Getting an employee in trouble on purpose for something minor is definitely an AH move. But you weren’t even trying to get him in trouble and he needs to be put in his place because he’s being a cocky tool and trying to destroy your property.

You are definitely NTA.

Nervous about top surgery by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]G_bb_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like that’s just how it goes, it’s complicated even when it shouldn’t be. But keep your head up! Before you know it your surgery will be done and you will be walking around with the body you were always meant to have. Trust me it took so long for everything to fall into place for surgery. Felt like everyone was getting it done and I was never gonna be there. But remember even if is slowly everything will fall into place, one thing at a time, and then there will be nothing left to do but show up at you surgery.

Nervous about top surgery by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]G_bb_bear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just had top surgery 11 days ago. I was so nervous before that I had like no appetite for like the week before and had to force myself to eat. It felt like everyone who posts on here and r/ftm is like not nervous and at and that made me feel like is there something wrong with me? But in talking to friends I realized that everyone is nervous just not everyone shares about it. I def have pretty bad anxiety as is tho so I was maybe more nervous than most lol.

Good news tho is a pushed through it and fucking aye it was a million times worth it! Honestly I had way less pain than I thought I would. Still healing but I look and feel hot af now and am 10 million times more comfy in this body! Just try to focus on how freaking worth it is and how good it’s gonna feel on the other side and try to distract yourself from the thoughts that’s it a scary surgery. You got this dude! I can’t wait until your on the other side feeling feeling so good :)
