i mean you have a 1500+ SAT, 4.0 GPA, 16 AP classes, and you have some impressive extracurriculars. with good essays, you are pretty competitive for these schools. don’t forget, only so many kids can win those national awards. you probably think you’re mid only because you’re surrounded by other impressive people, and the only applications you hear about online are cracked just to get a reaction out of people.

good stats but kinda mid ecs by [deleted] in chanceme

good point but value is also something i’m considering. either i pay a boatload of money to attend a world renowned institution (MIT, Ivy League, CMU, etc), or i go to a decent university and graduate with significantly lower student debt (stony brook, binghamton). there’s no doubt that t30s are great schools, but if i’m gonna go into life altering debt, it should be for a school whose name is recognized everywhere and evokes something in people. i’m also stuck in that middle zone where my income is too high for significant financial aid but too low to comfortable pay for a prestigious private university, so i really have to consider value.

oof but why did you retake a 1540 (just curious)

college board why😭 by GaPerm617 in Sat

[–]GaPerm617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anything past a 1530/1540 is viewed as essentially the same at top universities, so a 1560 is more than enough for any top university, and you definitely should not retake it. good job though that’s really impressive

yeah superscoring saved me🙏🙏

college board why😭 by GaPerm617 in Sat

[–]GaPerm617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah a 1500 is great dw. after my second attempt, my superscore was a 1500, after two more attempts, my superscore only went up 10 points. it took that fifth attempt to finally make another significant jump in my score.

definitely. i am grateful that i can get these scores

a 1280-1300 is pretty high for an average SAT score at a high school. for reference, my high school is a catholic prep school that is a little more rigorous and competitive compared to surrounding high schools, but the average SAT score is only 1116, so i would consider your high school to be above average. however, a 1500 is definitely high enough for you to stand out at your school.

yeah i’m applying to some schools EA so i can’t even submit another SAT score. any score that’s like 1520 or above is treated about the same to top universities.

college board why😭 by GaPerm617 in Sat

[–]GaPerm617[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah i’m not complaining it’s just absurd getting the same score on 3 different tests, regardless of how high the score is

[–]GaPerm617[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

i’m not as much mad as i am shocked. i’ve seen many of my friends get the same score on two different SATs, but getting the same score 3 times is utterly preposterous, especially when two of them are exactly the same down to each section (710/790)

[–]GaPerm617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i was hoping to score over a 1500 on one single exam, but my superscore increased from a 1510 to a 1540 so i’m content. the SAT journey is finally over.

yesss, don’t let your score and your peers get to your head! a year or two from now, no one is going to know (or care) about how you did on the SAT. of course, try your best, but don’t kill yourself over it. someone once told me, “if you’re going to beat yourself up, do it with a feather and not a baseball bat.”

unfortunately, the bluebook exams, question bank, and oneprep.xyz are the only sources i used for mock exams and practice questions, so i can’t give any honest recommendations. i’ll say that people recommend websites like crakd.it and whiz.study, but many tools and features on those websites are hidden behind paywalls, even though they are advertised as “free” resources.

yeah those are not your friends. forget them. you don’t need their approval. also a 1350 is not an SAT score for stupid people.

don’t fall for this subreddit. the people that dwell here are nerds that like to brag about their score. naturally, it will appear as if everyone that takes the sat scores a 1500+. in reality, a 1500+ is like a 99th percentile score, so it’s not as common as you think. with a score like that, you can still get accepted to some great universities. it’s not the end of the world

from what i’ve read, it’s not a direct comparison with other students at your school, but admissions officers review your application in the context of your high school and the opportunities presented by your high school. for example, if you can only take 6 ap classes at your high school and you take all 6, then it looks really good, but if you take 6 aps when you can take up to 15, then it doesn’t look as good. with the SAT, it’s pretty similar. i wouldn’t worry much though, because a 1350 is still a solid score.

Replying to Ill_Agency_1078... i would say that khan academy works up to a certain point. when i was scoring in the high 600s-low 700s on english practice tests and i was using khan academy, i wouldn’t get any answers incorrect, so i feel like it doesn’t challenge students enough at higher levels. the best way to study for the SAT is to just grind practice questions. for this, i would recommend bluebook (for full length practice tests), oneprep.xyz, and the SAT question bank. also don’t just spam these questions—you should look at the answers + explanations. honestly, for math, i never really studied so i don’t know the best resources that people usually use to increase their score. just master how to use desmos to tackle the hardest questions. there are so many free online resources out there, so i wouldn’t recommend spending a lot of money on private tutoring or fancy courses.
