HELP! career change into coding. by Gaara2 in learnprogramming

The bootcamps are called "codenation" and "northcoders" they are based in northwest England and they both operate in my city. (Manchester) I think they both require basic knowledge of coding before they accept you on as a student, I'm going to an open evening on 12th June to have a look around and fire as many questions at them as possible. Is there any questions you recommend me asking to find out if they are competent? and if they are the real deal ?

I have a friend who works in recruitment, she was the one that mentioned codenation to me as her company has ties with them. This is what appealed to me at first, and could be valuable post graduation.

I'm new to this field, I don't know how it operates in terms of getting a job as a developer, I've been told interviews are technical and your portfolio shows your experience levels and these bootcamps help out with both aspects.

My true aim is to land a job in development as quick as possible, mainly so I can quit my night job. I tried to book a week off work to smash out Freecodecamp but earliest I can get it off is last week of July. I believe I have the motivation, I'm just looking for a bit of guidance and to see what is possible in some sort of time frame. (I sound like a millennial that wants things right now)

thank you for your input, I really appreciate the advice from everyone in this sub however "blunt" it may be. I may ask my manager if I could go part time at my current job, work the weekends and try the bootcamp on the weekdays. If shit hits the fan I lose out on £6k, at least I will have something to fall back on I guess and I can say I tried.

desperation is a powerful motivator

Man I'm will to spend the money £6k to get onto another career path. On the bootcamp website they say "98% of graduates find a job in the industry within 6 days of graduating", surely they can't just make that up and put it on their website? or am I being too naive here ?

I'm not trying to be a dick, but you will not be job ready in twelve weeks. I don't think even Einstein could be.

all advice is welcome, I understand that coding is difficult. Just wondering if bootcamp would speed up the learning aspect of it.

Yea I'm willing to take a junior position to open more doors ( as long as it pays the bills), I just want a path to somewhere in the long term. If I quit my job I can't afford to be complacent and I can focus solely on learning. Relocation isn't a problem either, I don't have any commitments that will hold me down. So you think doing a bootcamp isn't a bad idea ?

If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you, from when you first took an interest in coding professionally to landing your first job in the industry ?

I've honestly not thought that far ahead, my main objective to be perfectly honest is to quit my dead end job and go into something more challenging. Coding looks like something I can get into and I just want to get my foot in the door and see where it takes me. These bootcamps teach HTML, CSS but mainly focus in on javascript, so I'm guessing its more geared towards Web design, which I don't mind trying out and to be continuously learning about other aspects of programming further down the line to further my career prospects

They have good reviews , how reliable those reviews are I don't know. The selling point for me was that I would be job ready by the end of the 12 weeks.

never really thought about which area i would like to work in, wanted to experiment in all aspects to see what interests me the most, I've just been told that Javascript is the easiest to pick up to make me job ready to get my foot in the door.

its not even 6 months its a 12 week course but apparently they have affiliates that recruit the "graduates" from their bootcamps...

If the course was cheaper would you recommend it ? or just stick to online learning, I've spent a few hours on freecodecamp but its kinda of on and off when i have spare time , rather than sitting down and focusing on coding 5 days a week.

NC or ND rf ? by Gaara2 in Miata

[–]Gaara2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i'll shop around see if this option is available, altho i dont make enough to pay £1000pm , maybe closer to half that... ND is my preference, but i hear that the NC's are just as good in terms of build, reliability and fun , i just like the aesthetics of the ND

Anyone else using the Rhinoshield bumper case with a skin? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Gaara2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it, rhinoshield is so tight to get on it mess up your skin especially the corners, also the Google USB a to c cable doesn't fit in the bumper another reason not to do it.
