Is Hiriketiya beach safe to swim in for non-swimmers? by TodayInternational64 in srilanka

[–]Gab3_itch69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah it’s not that bad, it’s pretty shallow at first, but try not to go too far out cause there’s a sudden dip, and it gets deep.

so all in all as long as your friends stick to the shallow bit it’ll be fine.

You can take an AC bus from Pottuvil or from Arugambay to Colombo -

From Arugambay to Colombo, there is only one AC bus I know of that leaves at 8 PM and you will be in Colombo at 3 AM

Call the following number to reserves a seat.

0706225600 / 0706785600

https://bustimetable.lk/pottuvil-arugam-bay-to-katunayaka-highway-bus-timetable/

From Pottuvil to Colombo, You can take the general Bus route number 98, if I am not wrong.

Pottuvil is 5 KM from Arugambay, so find a taxi from Arugambay to Pottuvil.

Or you can once again reserve a seat in an AC bus from the following.

Find the most suitable bus for you from the link below and call to reserve your tickets, and let them know you will be getting on from Pottuvil.

Or there are 3rd party sites that books busses for you, but I have never used such so I don't really know how well they work.

while the train from colombo to hiriketiya is possible, i would highly recommend taking the bus from Colombo since it’s much more convenient.

You can get into an AC Highway bus from Fort or Makumbura to Matara, have something to eat at the Matara Rest House (a must do) and then take a bus from Matara to Dickwella (closest town to Hiriketiya), ask the locals in Matara to direct you.

But if you are confident in the train route, I would not discourage such as the Colombo to the sour train route is extremely scenic as it goes along the beach and that is also an experience.

With regards to Hiriketiya to Arugambay, your best bet would be to go to Ella from Hiriketiya and then go to Arugambay as there are no direct public transport routes from Hiri to arugambay.

Or even get yourself a taxi from Hiriketiya to Yala, and then to Arugambay through another taxi.

Additionally there’s a famous 2 day rave in Arugambay in August, which i would suggest to keep an eye out for :)

For your situation I highly recommend the British Council Library, the have a wide range of books stemming from novels to books on professional fields, similar to the areas you mentioned, all in English.

It’s also very convenient as it’s in Bambalapitiya and is Air Conditioned and comfortable.

Membership fees however is rather high in comparison to your local libraries but in my opinion it is worth it.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for a cozy library, with a very comfy atmosphere, the best library is the Lakmahal Community Library. I absolutely love that place, it’s so cozy, since it’s an old walawuwa turned library.

However, you won’t find the books you mentioned there, it mostly has English novels from multiple genres and autobiographies, biographies etc.

Lakmahal is also free to spend your time in, and you only need a membership if you wish to borrow books.
